I am all for no limits based on age - so there is absolutely no reason why us 50 plus women can't wear pleather or leather trousers. But which pair?! Pleather is all over the High Street again this season and we are also seeing lots of new shapes - not just leggings - so paperbag waist, high waisted and wide leg styles. The quality of the 'pleather' is fantastic so we don't need to spend huge amounts on real leather - unless we want to. I have tried a few leather pairs in the past and always sent them back, I prefer pleather for the stretch and comfort, and I just find them more flattering and of course a better price - and they can be washed in the machine. And if you are not quite brave enough to go with pleather then definitely look at the coated jeans or waxed jeans. These are so popular again this year. I think they are a winter must have. I don't bother with black jeans now - I wear my pleather leggings or my coated jeans on repeat, with my indigo denim skinnies thrown in! See my post here for my current favourite pair. So today's post brings you a selection of the best pleather and coated jeans I have found. I don't think there is much to tell them apart, it will just be personal preference, I have both and wear both options equally. Coated or waxed jeans Next I wear their coated skinny jeans every year (see photo above), I have two pairs in black and I have also tried them in burgundy and navy - I still prefer the black though! They are a legging pull on style, they are a super fit and well they are just fabulous. And at just £26 they are a great price point to dip your toe into this trend. And I also noticed they are doing them in the Sculpt range. Style them with a longer length jumper or blouse, wear them with a smart blazer, or a faux fur jacket. Above: Pull-on Coated Leggings from Next (or Sculpt Pull-on Leggings) Cashmere Colour Block Jumper from Hope Barlow II Black/Leopard Ankle Boots from Van Dal A quick note about this lovely cashmere jumper from Hope, it is made from recycled cashmere - an investment with a conscience, it is such an easy pull on style, is a very lightweight and soft knit and I love the simple shape against the waxed jeans. Hope is a collection of wearable and stylish clothes with a focus on fluid designs created for real women. And Hope believe that body shape is more important that a number so their sizing has been reinvented to enhance and work with your proportions to create an amazing silhouette on all women from a size 8 to a size 20. Hope is a small independent brand - please do take a look at their range, they currently have a mid-season sale with some really great staples and you can get 15% off your first order if you sign up for their newsletter. I am wearing the size Dual Slim (8-14). Boden These are my other favourite pair of coated skinny jeans, the Boden ones are a classic skinny jean style with button and fly (as opposed to pull-on jeggings) - mine from a few years ago are still going strong. Again I dress them up or down and I don't feel they need something over the waistband like the Next ones so I can wear a blouse tucked in or a shorter style jumper. More expensive than Next but worth it if like me you end up wearing them so much. Above: Boden Super Skinny Jeans - Black Wax Zara red cowboy style ankle boots Black and red spot blouse from Brookes in Marlow (past season) Chanel style jacket past season from Mango Gucci belt from Selfridges Pleather leggings Sosandar I've had my eye on these for a while and decided to buy them this year. They are great, really flattering fit, soft comfortable pleather, easy to pull on and I love the biker styling with the zips. Work really well with shorter tops. They are the £45 'black leather look leggings' and I am wearing my usual size 10 and they are spot on but are on the longer side, which is okay for heeled boots but I need to roll up for flat shoes. They come in different colours and they also have black leather look front panel only and they do a waxed jean. Above and below: Black Leather Look Leggings from Sosandar Cream knitted cardigan from M&S last year (similar here from Next) Animal print scarf from Sweet-Bea (similar here) M&Co Not really keen on actually buying in store with M&Co it just doesn't do it for me but I have seen a few influencers on Instagram trying stuff for a campaign so decided to try the pleather leggings as I noticed they came in a petite length. They only arrived a few days ago but I will definitely keep them, again I am in a size 10, the petite is on the shorter side and I wonder what the regular would have been like on me, but the length will be perfect for trainers and flat boots so I now have two options now. Petite Faux Leather Trousers or regular length faux leather trousers. Above: Sosandar leather look leggings (as above) with Alison boots from Vionic in Chocolate, also available in black. So there you go, pleather leggings and coated jeans, my favourites, do you wear them, will you wear them? Have I tempted you to try? Let me know! I bought a great pair from F & F, they look good on, and also have them in olive green which I might just have to buy. Jacqui

I do worry that they will highlight my less than perfect thighs being slight shiny & light attracting, obviously they look great on you but ...
