What do you have for breakfast? Buttered toast just isn't good enough any more, the more we learn about nutrition and understand about the importance of protein with every meal, well we do need to up our game a bit! I have a few 'go to' healthy breakfasts ... Overnight oats (you can find my recipe here) Poached egg and avocado on wholemeal toast Smoothies Banana pancakes with fruit and yoghurt Granola or Muesli with yoghurt I know that any of these fit in with my calories, I know they are quick and easy and I know they are healthy. I have for many years only had Lizi's Granola, I've tried others but always go back to Lizi's and I serve it with a generous dollop of Fage Total 2% Yoghurt plus I add in some flaxseeds for their extra health benefits. So when I was asked if I'd like to try Lizi's Super Muesli, recently launched, I guessed it would be as good as her Granola. But how to serve it? I researched and found out that this traditional Swiss breakfast should be served with fruit juice which I didn't have in the fridge so I used yoghurt - which still gives me the protein with every meal which is so important (to keep us fuller for longer). But I wanted to experiment more and looked for a Muesli Bar recipe but could only find ones that were pretty high in sugar, then I looked at my friends website, Jenny is The Lunchbox Doctor and she has some really superb recipes on her website. And there was a muesli one - Grain Free Muesli Bread. Obviously I adapted it by using Lizi's Cleanse Muesli but otherwise I kept the recipe the same. It was really delicious and is great for breakfast, lightly toasted with butter on top. It is a healthy option, with protein and natural sugars. Lizi's new range of Super Muesli's come in four different variations - Focus, Boost, Cleanse and Glow. I was sent the Boost (Mango, Papaya and Turmeric) and the Cleanse (Cranberry, Raspberry and Cherry) to try. Each variant is packed with added vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, B6, B2 and Zinc as well as good for you natural ingredients like turmeric, barley, quinoa and hemp. Boost was mine and my daughters favourite of the two we received, it will help fight fatigue and boosts the immune system. The Cleanse blend helps to neutralise excess free radicals and protect cells. Glow helps fight signs of tiredness and keeps hair and nails healthy and Focus enhances concentration. Lizi's Super Muesli has a very satisfying crunch as it uses both toasted and untoasted oats and it is vegan-friendly thanks to the treacle used to add flavour instead of honey. Lizi's range is also GL tested meaning you will feel fuller for longer (no mid-morning snacking needed)! Must be good because my daughter has asked me to order her some more of the Boost! Lizi's Super Muesli is available from Waitrose, Ocado, Sainsbury's and most of the big supermarkets and the RRP is £4.00. But if you have a moment, do fill in your details below and one lucky winner will be sent two full size packs of Boost and Cleanse to try for themselves. Lizi's was founded in 2003 by Dr Mick Shaw and his wife Lizi. They combined their lifelong love of food with their experience in farming, food and science and their mission has been to promote a sense of wellbeing induced by eating good food without creating the artificial sugar fluctuations from so many convenience foods. Their research lead them to the latest scientific findings around Glycemic Load (GL) which is a direct measure of how food affects blood sugar. And so Lizi's became the first company in the world to measure the GL of their products. Lizi's Granola was their first product and they have added many more since, there are lots of different varieties of their Granola now and they have added Granola Crispies for kids and now the new Lizi's Super Muesli range. I love Muesli for breakfast and usually top it with fruit. At the moment I pick some fresh raspberries that I have growing in my garden.
