Did you see my blog post about party dresses - well I am now sharing a few shapewear ideas! I have chosen light support, nothing too restrictive or difficult to get on and off. I also favour prettier with some lace or satin. Whilst I do admit that I occasionally need a bit of help in a few areas, I hate feeling too trussed up and hate the fight to visit the bathroom! First up is this all-in-one by Maidenform, it is called the Endlessly Smooth Plunge Bodybriefer and is £49 from Figleaves here. I think this will be a favourite - it also comes in nude - it is very smooth, very easy to put on, really flattering and not too tight. It has adjustable straps, a plunging neckline, and tummy control. The cups are lightly padded, and there is no VPL, it really does give you a very smooth silhouette. However, you do need to be a bit of a contortionist with any bodysuit when visiting the loo - this one has bra style hooks not poppers - and I did find it a bit difficult! The dress behind me by the way is the insta-famous Red Heart Print Puff Sleeve Midi Dress from Closet London. I tried it on with the Maidenform body and it really does give a very smooth line! I'm keeping the dress by the way, not worn it yet, it keeps selling out but there are a good selection of sizes at the moment. Then I tried some separate pieces - a bra, panties and cami - all by Spanx and available from Figleaves. I will link each one separately below. The separates do make the loo visit easier! Above is the Bra-Llelujah! Full Coverage Front Fastening Bra this gives full support with the most incredibly soft and comfortable wider straps on the back and shoulders for a really smooth look. I was really impressed with this one. Then I am wearing the Undie-tectable Hi-Hipster Knickers because I wanted something that was attractive as well as functional and these will give a very smooth line under your outfit, no VPL and look pretty. I would suggest sizing up possibly in these ones - they were more difficult to put on. I was also sent a 'life changing' strapless bra from Figleaves. Yes it is comfortable and doesn't slip down. It has great reviews and I've seen in constantly praised on Instagram. It is the Smoothing Strapless Balcony Bra by Figleaves, it comes in five different colours and cup sizes A to H. You will have to excuse the photo on this one! With my daughter away at uni I do struggle doing them by myself - my son will help but refuses to 'do underwear' - why I do not know! And finally I chose the Thinstincts Covertible Cami in Black also from Spanx. I thought this would work well with trousers and my coated jeans. It is made from a sheer, breathable fabric, it is very lightweight and has adjustable straps to wear with different tops. I am wearing it here over the Bra-Llelujah! It has a tummy smoothing panel and it felt quite secure tucked into my jeans - not sure it would work with a dress, I'd have to try that, for a dress definitely the Maidenform bodysuit above would be my suggestion. So a few ideaas - do you love or hate shapewear!? Or is it a necessary staple in your wardrobe, it certainly seems to feature in everyones undie drawer, irrespective of size as it gives such a smooth silhouette under an outfit. Great selection of shapewear Michelle. I look on it as a necessary evil. Sometimes with fitted or sheer fabrics, it's necessary - but I don't really enjoy it. I've had so many issues with hook and eye fastenings, or in the case of one bodyshaper, just an open gap at the bottom!! I have a nude shaper by Huit which is a lot more comfortable than they normally are, and has a good shaping effect.

Oops, a gap is no good! Yeah I agree sometimes a necessary evil but they do have some disadvantages too! Michelle x
