About eighteen months ago I was really struggling with quite severe stress and needed to find a way to take some time out and relax. Phone free time, me time, where I wasn't distracted by the constant to do list in my head or text notifications! So I started to get a regular massage or reiki treatment. Now I would love to be able to do this weekly but I do try very hard to do it at least monthly. Recently I was asked if I would like to go along and try out a massage at The Massage Company. The Massage Company is a new concept in massage provision in the UK. Their mission is to make high quality, regular massage more accessible to everyone. I was invited to choose a complimentary massage and upgrade at their flagship Camberley location and then at their new centre in High Wycombe. I then had a full tour of their facilities at High Wycombe and was able to ask questions and find out more about the concept. Regular massage is proven to help with stress and relaxation, to raise alertness and assist in recovery from treatment and surgery. But most of us only treat ourselves to a very occasional massage, may be we have been given a gift voucher or we are away in a hotel with a spa. Also it tends to be more of an option for women as massages are usually only widely available at beauty salons which can be a bit daunting for men to go to and many women can find that a bit daunting too. The therapist is usually female (not all men are comfortable with this) and the whole process tends to be seen as a luxury, quite expensive and the massage choices can be over-complicated, it is not clear what you are going to get! The Massage Company have set out to change this. They offer a very simple choice of four types of massage with flexible upgrade options. And as well as being able to pay for a one-off massage, you can also become a member and get a discounted price on a regular massage. The salon facilities are designed to be neither too female or too male - they are clean, modern spaces without the frilly bits, without the fuss but still with the feeling of luxury and efficiency. You can choose a male or female therapist. On arrival I was greeted and asked to complete a short medical questionnaire before being met by the therapist and shown to the treatment room. The type of massage and upgrade option was explained clearly to me and we confirmed my choices. I chose to have a Swedish Massage with an aromatherapy upgrade (at Camberley) and the scalp massage upgrade at High Wycombe. The massage was relaxing, professional and efficient, both therapists were experienced and reassuring, making me feel comfortable and looked after. They were running on time and I didn't need to worry about anything. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would love to make it a regular part of my schedule. The Massage Company offer four types of massage: Deep Tissue Massage Sports Massage Swedish Massage Maternity Massage And four upgrade options: Hot Stones Scalp Massage Aromatherapy Foot Treatment Your first massage costs £39.95 and if you choose to become a member then you can either pay £49.95 per month (on a 12 month contract) or £59.95 per month (flexible with no contract). Both options allow you one 50 minute massage per month with the option to roll it over to the next month if you need to (or you can gift it to someone else). A non-member massage is £79.95. You can extend from 50 minutes to 80 minutes for an additional fee of £20.00. The Massage Company is open 7 days per week with late opening most week nights. There is a dual massage room if you would like to go with a partner or friend. "Our vision is simple: to bring high-quality massage to the mainstream. We want people to see massage as good value for money, so it can become a vital and routine part of a better and balanced quality of life." The Massage Company currently have centres in Camberley, High Wycombe, Tunbridge Wells and Sutton Coldfield. Booking is easy and simple via their website or on the telephone. For lots more information about The Massage Company visit their website here. I will continue to have regular massages whenever I can fit them in, I always feel the benefit of a relaxing massage and I know that the down time away from technology and to do lists is so good for my stress levels. Love from Michelle xx Disclaimer: I had two complimentary massages with upgrades. I was asked if I would like to write a review of my experience, the opinions and words are entirely my own.

This sounds like a great concept! I enjoy a massage, and my shoulders are very stiff from being huddled over a PC all day at work. But I rarely have a massage, just occasionally if I'm at a hotel with a spa. I find that local beauty salons often give poor massages so I'd rather not have one at all. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday Michelle!

I think that is very true, it can be really mixed results from beauty salons so I think this concept will work very well xx

Michelle - you are spot on with your comments - the rise of stress, desk work, lack of sleep, and common muscular pains are mostly fixable with semi-regular massage therapy. It's just considered a luxury, and occasional like you say (in a hotel or salon where the quality might be mixed).
