The 5 benefits of using a face serum every day

12/9/2023

Collaborative Post | In this post I am discussing the benefits of using a good quality face serum as part of your skin care routine as well as reviewing the Dēpology Peptide Complex 10% Serum formulated with Argireline™ peptide.

A face serum is a lightweight liquid that is easily absorbed into the skin.  The best face serum is designed to target different skin issues and promote skin health, including fine lines and wrinkles, dehydrated skin and uneven skin tone.  Serums contain a higher concentration of active ingredients and you should choose one that will address your unique skincare concerns.

Facial serums come in various forms, either gel, oil, lotion or a water-like formula but they are always a thinner consistency and absorb easily which means they layer onto the skin really well.

Your skincare routine should include applying your serum to the entire face after cleansing but before your face cream / moisturiser, day and night.  With regular use your dull skin will be transformed and you will soon feel the benefits of face serum.

5 face serum benefits you need to know

  1. Hydration and moisturisation - face serums contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which deeply hydrate the skin. These ingredients can attract and retain moisture, to prevent dry skin and keep the skin hydrated and supple.
  2. Improved skin texture - many face serums contain key ingredients such as peptides, vitamins (like a Vitamin C serum), and retinoids that can help improve the texture of the skin. They can promote cell turnover, reduce fine lines, and even out skin tone, resulting in smoother and more even skin.
  3. Targeted treatment - serums are often formulated to address specific skin concerns, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, redness, or dullness. The concentrated powerful ingredients in serums can effectively target and treat these issues, providing a more focused approach to skincare.
  4. Enhanced absorption of other products - applying a face serum before moisturiser or sunscreen can help enhance the absorption and effectiveness of these subsequent products. The serum's lightweight and penetrative nature allow other products to be absorbed more efficiently into the skin.
  5. Antioxidant and anti-aging properties - many face serums are rich in antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and various plant extracts. These antioxidants help combat free radicals, which can damage the skin and accelerate the aging process. By neutralising free radicals, serums can help reduce visible signs of aging and promote a more youthful complexion.

It's important to note that the effectiveness of a face serum can vary based on individual skin types, the specific ingredients in the serum, and how consistently and appropriately it is used.  Always choose the best face serum that suits your skin type and addresses your specific skin concerns for optimal results.  Additionally, consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional can provide personalised recommendations for the best results.

Adding a face serum to your daily skincare routine can be the best way to tailor your skincare and give visible results.  The high concentration of active ingredients along with the ability to penetrate the skin means that serums can deliver positive and measurable results.

Different types of face serums

Face serums come in various types, each designed to target specific skin concerns.

Anti-aging serums and the new Dēpology Peptide Complex 10% Serum formulated with Argireline™ is a multi-peptide wrinkle prevention serum that works together with the Dēpology best-selling Matrixyl 3000 serum to help combat and prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.  This Peptide Complex Serum also delivers preventative benefits as well as replenishing moisture in the skin.  It is particularly effective on areas where expressive and dynamic wrinkles occur.

What is Argireline™ and what are the benefits to your skin?  Well firstly Argireline™ doesn't need any needles, you simply apply it to your face and rub in! But it is very similar to the Botulinum Toxin and is known as a safe, non-invasive, natural alternative with dermatologists and skin care specialists referring to it as 'Botulinum Toxin In Jar' or 'Liquid Botulinum Toxin for under eyes'.  This peptide has multiple benefits, to smooth lines and wrinkles and even out skin tone by reducing excess collagen production. And best of all, it’s gentle enough to use on sensitive areas like the eyes and mouth.

Other types of serums to look out for include:

Hydrating Serums are formulated to provide intense hydration to the skin. They often contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, aloe vera, and ceramides to lock in moisture and maintain skin hydration.
Brightening Serums focus on reducing hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and uneven skin tone. Ingredients like Vitamin C, niacinamide, licorice extract, and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) work to brighten the complexion and even out skin tone.
Soothing and Calming Serums are formulated to calm irritated or sensitive skin. Ingredients like chamomile, aloe vera, calendula, and green tea extract help soothe redness, inflammation, and discomfort.
Exfoliating Serums typically contain AHAs or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) like glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid. They aid in removing dead skin cells, improving skin texture, and promoting a smoother complexion.
Antioxidant Serums are rich in antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and ferulic acid. These serums help neutralize free radicals, protect the skin from environmental damage, and promote a youthful appearance.

Before using any face serum, it is essential to understand your skin type and specific concerns to choose the right serum for your needs. It's also advisable to patch-test new products to ensure they don't cause any adverse reactions, especially if you have sensitive skin.

How I got on with the Depology Argireline™ Peptide Serum

I tested the Dēpology Argireline™ Peptide Serum for 7 days before sharing my review.  I loved the bottle and the price point and how easy it was to use, it layered very well with my existing skin care products and I didn't have any skin irritation, I did feel it needed additional moisturisation however.  My skin currently has some sun damage post holiday so I felt this powerful serum would be a good option to help restore my skin.  It is too early to comment if there is a reduction in the appearance of fine lines but I am happy to keep using the Argireline™ Peptide Serum to see where I am in 30+ days!
