Review | The Massage Company and a why a regular massage is good for mental and physical wellbeing29/11/2021 I was recently invited back to The Massage Company in High Wycombe to see how they are getting on, try out some of their most popular massages and share an updated review on my blog. I first visited them in June and July 2019 but since then we have all had the stress of a pandemic to cope with! The Massage Company was one of the many businesses that had to shut their doors for months on end. But they are back open and offering a selection of full body massage treatments again - these include a hot stone massage and a deep tissue massage alongside quite a few relaxing upgrades to restore our wellbeing and help our stress and tension! The Massage Company gifted me three massages which I took over a period of about six weeks, so one every two weeks. And first of all can I say, they were amazing! But let me tell you in a bit more detail ... and share the many benefits of regular massage too! This is a gifted blog post. Making high quality regular massage appeal to everyoneWhen we think about getting a massage, up until now, there has only really been one choice - a very feminine, pretty, beauty salon or day spa with mostly female therapists. Yes we can get a sports massage (ouch), or we can see a physiotherapist (if we have an injury) maybe. But none of these feel very accessible. Options are hidden amongst treatment menus with a distinctly girly feel and fancy names and generally associated with a particular beauty brand, who are then keen for you to buy their products! The Massage Company set about changing this with a clear, simple menu, easy to navigate upgrades and treatment rooms designed to have a functional, no frills approach that will appeal to men and women, young and old. You can book a one-off massage. Or you can sign up for their monthly subscription and feel the ongoing benefits of a regular massage. They use simple non-scented oils (unless you upgrade to an aromatherapy massage) and there are no additional products to tempt you afterwards. Massages at The Massage CompanyIt's easy, you choose which type of massage you would like. Each one lasts for 50 minutes and can be carried out by a male or female therapist (if you have a preference, please specify at time of booking):
Then if you would like to choose an upgrade, again there are very simple add-ons to increase your relaxation!
You can also extend the length of your massage from 50 minutes to 80 minutes for a small charge. Regular, high quality massage can help improve mental and physical wellbeing and become an essential part of a better and balanced lifestyle. My review of The Massage Company, High WycombeThe clinic is located near to Primark in the town centre. I chose to park along Priory Road where you pay at a meter (or on a parking app), it is then a 5 minute walk downhill to The Massage Company. You could also park at the Swan car park. The clinic is bright, functional and welcoming. Whereas walking into a beauty salon can feel a bit overwhelming, The Massage Company feels really friendly and not at all intimidating. I think this is more of a benefit to men than to us women but regular massage shouldn't just be for women! On my first visit I was taken through a brief introduction and asked to fill in a simple medical disclaimer form. My therapist then came out to meet me (elbow bump for Covid rules and masks are discretionary). My first therapist, Diana, asked if I had any specific areas of tension or concern and then left me to get undressed and climb onto the treatment table. The massage process is very discrete and respectful, you are covered at all times with a sheet and a blanket for warmth and the therapist only exposes the part of the body he/she is actually working on at any one time. I was treated by both male and female therapists and had absolutely no issue with the male therapist. But is it entirely up to the individual and you can request male or female if you prefer. For. my first massage I had a Swedish massage with an upgrade of scalp massage, this was because I'd had a migraine the day before and we felt that a scalp massage would benefit me. It did! The next time I went, I upgraded to a hot stone massage and my (female) therapist explained that the heat of the stones is both relaxing and warming and it allows the therapist to work more deeply and more quickly into tight muscles. The stones get quite warm but the therapist was very careful to check that I was okay! My third and final massage was a deep tissue massage with a male therapist, Frankie and an upgrade to aromatherapy oils. I chose the Calm & Relax oils and a diffuser under the treatment table also disperses a relaxing scent into the room. I think this was my favourite massage, Frankie was excellent and I felt so relaxed, I could have fallen asleep! And I had a superbly relaxing sleep that night too. After each massage I was offered a glass of water to hydrate again and given recommendations for next time and any self-care tips. Overall I felt that The Massage Company offer a fantastic service. I loved the no frills approach that will appeal to everyone. The staff and therapists were warm and friendly and very helpful. The clinic is clean and spacious and welcoming but not intimidating. The booking system was easy, I just booked my next appointment before I left each time. They have long opening hours and I think their services represent value for money. It isn't a spa with a full on zen atmosphere but it did feel cosier than a cold treatment room at a physiotherapy clinic. After my final massage, I decided to buy a 12 month subscription - they have various options which seemed to be very flexible and I didn't feel I was given any hard sell. Although I admit I was so relaxed I was very happy to commit to going back! I like that I can give one of my monthly massages to my husband or daughter for example if I can't go or I can roll them over and take two in one month if that suits me better. Who should get a regular massage and why?Everyone! A regular massage is a preventative treatment. It is good for stress and general wellbeing, it can help prevent injuries before they become a problem. Chatting to the receptionist, he explained for example that they have a lot of construction workers who are monthly subscribers, they'd be unlikely to go to a beauty salon, but this gives them a no frills option for general wellbeing rather than maybe a specific sports massage clinic. The classic Swedish massage is perfect for relaxation and easing stress on your mind and body. Pressure is adapted to suit you and your therapist will work on the whole body to loosen muscles and remove toxins. You will feel less stressed, less tense and with regular treatments your flexibility will improve. A deep tissue massage is designed to focus on the main muscle groups of your body to release and reduce pain and tension and help with general neck, back, shoulder and leg pain. Pressure is adapted to suit you. This is also good for reducing stress, raising energy levels, helping posture and aiding a good nights sleep. An upgrade to a hot stone massage is good for long term join and muscle pain, muscle spasms and tension. The heat of the stones is relaxing, and will allow your therapist to work more deeply and quickly into tight muscles. So good to help with pain, promote circulation and to just feel good! The Massage Company also offer a sports massage and a maternity massage. Gift vouchers from The Massage CompanyWith Christmas coming soon, you might be interested to know that you can buy gift vouchers from The Massage Company, they start at £49.95 for one 50 minute massage or a three-month membership is £189.85 with various other options in-between! The Massage Company have centres in Camberley, Sutton Coldfield, Tunbridge Wells, High Wycombe and most recently they have opened in Putney, London. Now at this very busy time of the year, I am looking forward to my next massage, where I can switch off for an hour of relaxation time! Love from Michelle xx Disclaimer: The Massage Company gifted me three massages at their High Wycombe clinic and asked if I'd like to share my experience on my blog. My words and opinions are entirely my own.
