Better than a takeaway, not as expensive as a personalised dinner party chef ... Cook My Grub is a new food delivery service that is affordable, accessible and delicious. Championing home chefs and with a massive choice of different cuisines available, they are now delivering their fresh, homemade food nationwide! And last weekend I was invited to try Cook My Grub for my own dinner party at home. Cook My Grub started as a local food delivery service in Berkshire before their recent expansion to nationwide delivery. Founded in 2019 by entrepreneurs Shabbir Mookhtiar and Dinesh Patil, their ambition is to deliver authentic, home-cooked dishes that cannot be found on the high street. Not only does their service offer easy to order, healthier ready meals, they are also supporting home based chefs to build their own small businesses. Cook My Grub have a hygiene promise, every chef is trained in allergy awareness and Hygiene Level 2 as well as conducting it's own regular hygiene audits and supporting them with local council registrations. All meals are prepared within the guidelines of the Food Standard Agency. So last weekend I invited our friends Mark and Steve for dinner .... with all the food delivered I could relax, open the wine, lay the table, get dressed up and not worry about what to cook! Delicious home cooked ready meals delivered to your doorThere are lots of different food delivery apps but none offering such a wide choice of freshly cooked, healthier, homemade meals. Download the Cook My Grub app or go to their website, add your postcode then you can search on your preferred cuisine and date required or just browse and see what takes your fancy! There is a massive choice ... Caribbean, Sri Lankan, European, Thai, North Indian, South Indian, British, African and more. As an example Arulkumar is an experienced chef and award winning food innovator who has worked for prestigious brands, restaurants, hotels and food manufacturers in the UK for more than 25 years. He offers top quality food from his kitchen to your table including British, Italian, Chinese and Indian cuisine. Dishes for delivery when I browsed include Steak & Ale Pie and Chicken Ham & Leek Pie served with buttery mashed potato and steamed vegetables. For my dinner party I decided to try a traditional Indian meal from Ruchika, I chose Chicken Bhuna and Lamb Bhuna, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Jalfrezi with Rice, Dal and Aloo Gobi. The ordering process is really easy and my delivery arrived on Saturday morning with plenty of reminder texts to say it was on it's way. My delivery was being done by their own driver as I am fairly local but the process is the same. The food is immaculately packed in sturdy boxes, lined with full recyclable insulation and cool packs. Each dish is clearly labelled and presented in a takeaway dish for reheating in the microwave. I unpacked everything but I could easily have left it stored in the boxes for the day if space was limited in the fridge. Easy entertaining or a date night!A few points to note, when you are entertaining, reheating 4-5 dishes in a microwave is too fiddly so I would recommend ordering only 1 or 2 dishes that you can easily decant into your own oven-ready dish to reheat. Then just reheat the rice and/or side dishes in the microwave. All the packaging can be recycled but like any food delivery service there has to be a reasonable amount of packaging and Cook My Grub are working on cost effective ways to reduce waste and make recycling easier. But it is early days for their business and this is not something that can happen overnight. Quantities are generous, I have some leftovers that I have frozen! And whilst I ordered for a dinner party, Cook My Grub would be just as easy and suitable for a date night at home or just for a night off - how about a regular Saturday night takeaway - you could try a different chef and different cuisine every week! I was lucky last Saturday, my daughter had arrived home from uni and was happy to be my kitchen assistant, so she took control of reheating and serving to the table! As we'd chosen several dishes - in the interests of providing a proper review - we did heat several in the oven and just used the microwave for the rice and vegetable dishes. We really did have a super relaxing evening, and the meals that Ruchika made for us were top quality, really tasty, obviously home cooked and more nutritious than the mass produced ready-meals. As all the dishes were delicious it would be hard to pick a favourite! I did love the Lamb Bhuna, I am a lamb fan ... and the rice was cooked to perfection. Steve wasn't too keen on trying dal for the first time, but even he agreed, it was superb! I added some naan bread, so being able to order that as a side might be a nice touch for the future, but M&S helped for now! Obviously our original plan was to have pre-dinner drinks in the garden ... I'd washed the garden furniture, got the cushions out, opened the conservatory doors, took some outfit photos, then the sky went very dark and when our friends arrived it was pouring with rain! But after all the oddness of the last 2+ years with limited entertaining, it was good to cast off that low level depression we are all still struggling with, even if only for a few hours, and have fun and laughter with friends and catch up on all the news! Do give Cook My Grub a go ... please use my Refer A Friend link to get £5 off your first order! And let me know what you try, so I can add more ideas to my favourites list!
