Should I be missing my children more and struggling with my empty nest? Or is it okay to feel a little bit pleased that I have more space, more time and am loving getting my house and wardrobe organised? I have been a stay at home mum / working at home for 23 years and I loved every minute of it (well mostly). But I was also ready for a rest! I don't think I realised just how tired I had got and how much I missed 'me'. In today's post I am sharing details of my new walk in wardrobe (or dressing room), some pretty new underwear for the autumn and a super cotton white shirt! We have a beautiful cottage in the woods but it isn't a mansion and being a period cottage it does lack storage space. We have three bedrooms, two bathrooms plus a spare room in an annexe, we are also really fortunate to have the log cabin. But my dream, since our trip to Florida years ago, was to have a big walk in wardrobe. Okay so I am not going to quite get the equivalent of the big American homes but I can compromise. I am not going to be one of those mum's who keeps the kids bedrooms exactly as they were for them to visit. Oh no, space is too precious for that, and my son owns a flat ten minutes away so he hardly needs a bedroom here does he? And he can still stay over for Christmas if he wants to. I have therefore utilised his bedroom and made it into my dressing room and it will also be a spare room. We decorated the room about a year ago as at that point we thought it would take him longer to save to buy his own place. It had pine furniture it it and we had it all painted in a Farrow & Ball grey with pale cream walls. It made such a big difference and now I have de-junked the room it looks clean and fresh. I've kept it simple with white bedding, a faux fur throw from The White Company and new cushions. I've borrowed a wicker chair from the log cabin until I can find just the right armchair. I've added fairy lights and a few pictures and accessories. I still want to get some fashion prints and quotes for the walls but I will take my time finding just the right thing. I'm also sharing here my new autumn underwear set from Playtex, they offer such a supportive, comfortable and stylish range. I am wearing the Flower Elegance Micro Lace in Blue Garden which comes in bra sizes from 34 to 42 B-D and 34-40 in DD-G with the microfibre and lace mini brief in sizes S to 2XL. The flower elegance range offers femininity and comfort and comes in a choice of balcony styles or full cup styles. I love matching my underwear to my outfit! And I insist on a matching set too! I just can't not! Because we live in the woods the outlook from every window is green and bright, we are not overlooked and I love watching the seasons change. I've not bought much new for my room, I have utilised accessories from around the house. My wooden stars were a sale purchase from The Wendy House, my 'Live the Life you Love' cushion was purchased a few years ago now. I saved my 'designer' bags for when I could eventually display them! My mirror was on the wall in our bedroom but it was a bit small and it works much better propped up on the furniture! I'd quite like to get one of those big leaning mirrors as well though. I have repurposed the filing trays and they now house jewellery and skincare items. I love collecting quotes, one of my favourites is (top left) 'Too many clothes? Never! Just not enough hangers' and of course who doesn't love a bit of Winston Churchill 'Never never never give up' I use it to motivate me to exercise but I think it is very appropriate during this rather frustrating pandemic! Finally dressed! The white shirt (above) and below, is the 'boyfriend' cotton shirt from Creative DeZigns and I love it. I am not a big white shirt wearer but was really impressed with this one. It is a beautiful soft cotton, it is a longer length with a flattering shape and deep side vents. I am wearing it with a bead bracelet in blue also from Creative DeZigns and wide leg pleather trousers from La Redoute and my silver bag and strap is from Amelia Rose Accessories. I was 'home alone' this weekend, my husband has gone with one of his sisters to visit another sister in Wales. They are surrounded by local lockdowns but not actually where they are! They have taken Katy and Bonnie (our westies) and Tammi and Snowi (his sisters westies) and the sister in Wales also has a westie, Daisy so it is a full on five westie party! It's been great here though as I have used the time to organise my autumn clothes and sort things out for selling and charity donations. You may have seen on my Instagram post though ... I saw a rat! I knew they were in the vicinity of the shed as they have been driving the dogs mad for weeks but when I saw one, well no way are they welcome, so that is being dealt with today. Love from Michelle xx Disclaimer: the Playtex bra set was a gift and the white shirt is on loan to be as part of a PR collaboration. I was under no obligation to feature these items on my blog.
