I went to Boots Hearingcare recently for a free hearing test, I have been meaning to have one for ages, well since I turned 50 probably, but when Boots Hearingcare asked if I would consider sharing details of their free hearing test service on my blog, I decided it was an ideal opportunity to get one done myself! For quite a number of years I have suffered with painful ears, recurring ear infections, excess wax and temporary poor hearing which also caused me to feel dizzy and unsteady - gosh I sound like I am falling apart! I was under a private ENT Consultant originally and I had regular appointments to get my condition under control, this included microsuction and antibiotics. Eventually I was able to transfer to the ENT Nurse at my local NHS Hospital - until Covid arrived! For the last 18 months I have had to either pay for private microsuction ear wax removal or go without. And although I have increased the time between appointments, it is clear I still need this service. The longer I go without seeing the ENT Nurse, the deafer I get, I am fairly sure it is related to my excess ear wax and ear eczema but I still knew that it was important to get my hearing checked and especially as I am over 50. Why a hearing test is important for over 50'sHearing deterioration is usually a gradual thing so it is more difficult to notice exactly what is happening. A free hearing test is super simple and a quick way to keep an eye on things and getting them regularly, especially after age 50, is recommended. Some signs your hearing might be deteriorating:
Around 40% of people over 50 in the UK have some form of hearing loss. My hearing test at Boots HearingcareBooking was super simple, and I arrived on time for my appointment, Hearingcare at Boots in High Wycombe is located within Boots Opticians and it was easy to find. My hearing specialist had a chat to me first, and asked if I had noticed any problems, I explained about my history with my ears and needing regular ear microsuction etc. He then had a look inside my ears and concluded that he couldn't do a full hearing assessment until I had my ears cleaned again!! But that there was one test he could carry out but suggested I come back again for a fuller assessment. Typical! I knew I was overdue for my microsuction! Anyway, the test he could carry out was quick, painless and easy. I had to sit inside a sound proofed cubicle with a glass door, wear some headphones and listen to a series of sounds. I had to press a button on a handheld device every time I heard something, however faint! It took less than 5 minutes. Fortunately my hearing was all within the 'normal' range with no causes for concern at this stage. But my intention is to go back when my ears have been cleaned again! But if I needed a hearing aid, would I wear one? Yes of course! They are so small and so discreet now, no one would notice anyway, although it helps I have longer hair! There is, but there doesn't need to be, and hearing aids are so discreet now. I hope you get your husband to go along! Michelle xx

Hi Linda, thank you, it is lovely isn't it, I got it from Sosandar but it was a few years ago now. I have worn it a lot and it keeps coming back out! I would definitely recommend a shirt dress as a good all round style especially for spring and autumn. Love Michelle x
