Is Fussy the best aluminium-free natural deodorant for women? | Read my review to find out!

Get fussy about your health and the planet!  Fussy is the new natural deodorant everyone is talking about and Fussy are on a mission to banish single-use plastic with their simple but effective new deodorant!  But does it live up to the hype and did it work for me?

Firstly, what is the difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant?  Well they both want to keep you smelling nice but an antiperspirant works by stopping you sweating, it uses aluminium to block your sweat glands.  A deodorant will still allow you to sweat but will focus on getting rid of the smell by absorbing the excess moisture and neutralising any odour.

Best aluminum-free deodorant

There have been some concerns that aluminium in antiperspirants might raise the risk of breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease, and can cause skin irritation, although there have been no conclusive studies to back any of these theories up.  But the way the aluminium works, by blocking the sweat ducts and stopping sweating altogether might feel helpful in the moment, but no one really knows what long term effect it might be.  My personal preference is to avoid aluminium antiperspirants and choose natural options instead.

How to easily swap to a natural deodorant

Swapping from traditional antiperspirants with their synthetic fragrances to natural aluminium and propylene glycol free deodorants will take a period of adjustment ... you should allow your body a week or two to adjust.  Don't worry though, it is absolutely worth sticking with it!

And while you are going through this period of adjustment, I have a few tips to help you!  Make sure you keep some natural water-based wipes in your bag for a quick clean-up, or even better make your own antibacterial spray using apple cider vinegar mixed with a little water, the acid in the vinegar kills bacteria.  You can also have a hot bath to open up pores and encourage the body to sweat and a kaolin clay mask will help to draw out impurities, absorb moisture and unclog the sweat glands.  If you can, choose looser clothes made with natural fibres like cotton or linen and avoid synthetic tops.

But why choose Fussy deodorant?

So you're converted and want to try a natural deodorant, but why choose Fussy?

When I tried Fussy I had already been using natural deodorants for a few years so I didn't need to go through the transition period.  But I was impressed with their credentials and actually loved the design of their refillable 'case for life', which has to be a good place to start, if it looks great on your dressing table it is worth trying surely!?  I did find the lid a little fiddly to start with, it needs to be opened by holding the sides, rather than front/back (if that makes any sense at all)!  It's easy when you know how.

Fussy on Dragons' Den!

And in case you didn't know, Fussy appeared on Dragons' Den in April 2022 and received investment from Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones,

Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of their impact on the planet and disposable plastic and harmful ingredients are at the top of the list. When Matt and Eddie described their mission to take a fresh look at very traditional product with a big negative impact on the environment and re-engineer to remove single use plastic along with a “ no nasties” ingredients approach..it was immediately appealing. That it was presented by two clearly capable and switched on guys with such a clear vision and understanding of the opportunity..soon had Dragons in a bidding War…just glad that I won it alongside Peter!!!

Natural ingredients and natural scents

Fussy only use naturally derived ingredients and for their scented deodorants they add different essential oils.  There are beautiful moisturising ingredients like sunflower seed oil, organic coconut oil and shea butter, making a smooth texture that is easy to apply and literally glides onto the skin.

There are currently eight different scents in their normal range.  I tried (and loved) the citrus scent, called Wide Eyed Citrus and it is made up of Mandarin, Grapefruit and Black Pepper. Their sensitive range offers four scents, and both normal and sensitive contain the Bare All, an unscented option!  The Cloud Nine scent is the only one to use an artificial fragrance.

There is no animal testing at Fussy, only smelly humans and ingredients are cruelty-free!

Fussy is a natural aluminium free deodorant for all day protection and no white marks!

My conclusion - did I love Fussy?

Yes I did, my only niggle to start with was working out how the lid came off.  I chose the blush case, it is very stylish, a little bigger than my 'other brand' but I prefer how it looks and feels, also the refills are much easier to put in.

There are a few natural deodorant brands appearing on the market now but Fussy is up there with the best, if not the best.

Fussy gave me all day protection and the ultimate test, no white marks!  I had to test this myself, and double check, but there were definitely no white smudges on my black workout top!

Fussy comes in a wide range of fun colours and designs, there's hot pink (very Barbie and current), Burnt Orange, Ocean Blue and Midnight ... plus a few more - they are suitable for everyone (not just women).  And you can add a matching washbag!

Fussy offer a subscription or one-off purchase, and don't miss my 15% discount code below.

I think Fussy is a great option if you are ready to ditch your aluminium-based antiperspirants and go all out for natural products!  We have come a long way from the more traditional deodorants - who remembers Mum Roll-On and Impulse Spray?  But like all beauty products, it is good to see progress and improvements, as well as being much better for us and the environment!

Hi Michelle. I hope you are well and so glad you enjoyed your holidays. Thank you so much for recommending Fussy. Absolutely love it and don’t miss the chemical deodorants at all. I’ve even persuaded one of my sons to use it and he smells so much better!😂 I have bought a few scents and recommended it to friends and family who have purchased it too. Thank you.❤️
