A new supplement for urinary tract infections in menopause | review of V-Health from Feel

4/12/2023

With 1 in 2 of women experiencing a vaginal infection in their lifetime, and many more getting recurrent UTIs especially in menopause, it is something that we need to all be aware of!  Sadly many women are dismissed by their GPs and not given the help they so desperately need. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) become more common in menopause due to the physiological changes that take place.  It's not an easy time!

I personally have not had recurrent infections, but the one or two I have had were uncomfortable enough!  My article shares information on how to prevent a UTI in menopause including a review of V-Health a new natural supplement from Feel

Recurrent UTIs come under a set of symptoms known as Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) and they can severely impact on our quality of life.  Depleting hormones means that the delicate vaginal ph is no longer present which can allow bad bacteria to flourish.

So what can we do to prevent recurrent UTIs and better care for our vaginal health and can Feel V-Health help with that?

Causes of UTIs

UTIs might be more common during menopause due to a number of reasons:

Hormonal changes - during menopause, the decline in oestrogen levels can lead to changes in the urinary tract. Oestrogen helps maintain the health of the urinary tract by supporting the growth of beneficial bacteria and maintaining the thickness of the vaginal lining. Reduced oestrogen levels can make the urinary tract more susceptible to infections.

Changes to the vaginal tissue - decreased oestrogen levels can cause the vaginal tissue to become thinner and less elastic, a condition known as vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness. This thinning can lead to a decrease in our natural defenses against bacteria and increase the risk of bacteria entering the urinary tract.

Changes in urinary tract structure - menopausal changes can also affect the structure and function of the urinary tract. For example, the urethral lining may become thinner, making it easier for bacteria to enter and cause an infection.

Urinary incontinence - menopause can be associated with an increased risk of urinary incontinence. Incontinence can lead to incomplete emptying of the bladder, allowing bacteria to multiply and potentially cause infections.

Altered microbiome - changes in the vaginal flora due to decreased oestrogen can disrupt the balance of good bacteria, making it easier for harmful bacteria to flourish and cause infections.

Reduced immune function - ageing and menopause can impact the immune system, making women more susceptible to infections.

Symptoms of a UTI can be very distressing and painful but remember everyone is different, if you have any concerns at all, you must get proper medical advice.

Symptoms of a UTI in women

The most common symptoms of a urinary tract infection are:
  • A burning sensation when urinating.
  • Frequent urination (overactive bladder).
  • Urgency to urinate.
  • Cloudy or bloody urine.
  • Foul smelling urine.
  • Pelvic pain.
  • Generally feeling unwell and tired.

Natural remedies for a UTI

Treatment options include being offered antibiotic treatment, but of course regular use can result in antibiotic resistance meaning over time they become less and less effective.
The good news is that if you do find that you are getting recurrent urinary tract infections then there are some natural remedies and simple lifestyle factors you can implement instead:
  • Drink plenty of water to flush out bacteria from the urinary tract.
  • Practice good hygiene, including wiping from front to back after using the toilet.
  • Urinate before and after sexual intercourse to help eliminate any bacteria.
  • Consider topical oestrogen therapy prescribed by your doctor to improve any symptoms of GSM.
  • Consider taking a supplement specially designed to protect against frequent UTIs and maintain a healthy vagina.

Feel V-Health for recurrent UTIs

Feel is an evidence based, high-tech, wellness and beauty brand dedicated to developing products that revolutionise and to provide formulas that enhance our wellbeing.  Their supplements are suitable for vegans and come in eco-friendly, sustainable packaging.  And they have just launched a brand new oral supplement specifically developed to fight against recurrent UTIs and support women with a history of UTI infections.

Feel V-Health is an oral supplement which has been designed to restore the vaginal flora and protect against recurrent UTIs, it contains a selection of the best ingredients, including two V-health live-bacterial cultures targeted for female health and cranberry extracts.

The star ingredient in Feel V-Health is D-Mannose. E-coli is the bacteria believed to be responsible for about 90% of UTIs, it enters the urinary tract, latches on and grows in the tissues, D-Mannose works by attaching itself to the E-Coli bacteria and prevents the bacteria from adhering to the vaginal walls allowing the bacteria to be eliminated during urination instead.  Therefore, 1000mg of D-Mannose has been included as a primary ingredient in Feel V-Health.

Why take Feel V-Health to prevent UTIs?

Taking Feel V-Health regularly as part of a preventative regime to avoid recurrent UTIs is absolutely worth considering in both perimenopause and postmenopause but especially if you have had a UTI recently, or if you often experience vaginal discomfort, are worried about your scent, or you are sexually active.  The vaginal probiotic in Feel V-Health is specifically designed to support healthy levels of vaginal bacteria and yeast, and will help maintain a balanced ph and support urinary tract health.

The recommended dose of Feel V-Health is 3 capsules per day, Feel offer a flexible subscription option and you can get 20% off your first order by using code PARTNER20 at checkout,

It's essential for women experiencing recurrent UTIs during menopause consult their GP for proper evaluation and treatment.

I have just started taking the Feel V-Health supplement, a little boost to my vaginal health won't do any harm at all, particularly as my oestrogen has been too low recently resulting in some menopause symptoms returning.  I am working with my menopause specialist and my GP to get my HRT dose working again!

Don't forget to use MICHELLE20 for 2o% off your first order at Feel.

What an interesting article. I finished my menopause 2 years ago and I've only ever had a couple of UTIs but they weren't very pleasant. In my view anything that helps has got to be good.

Yes we do need to help ourselves and it is best to avoid antibiotics if at all possible. Michelle x
