As I start to write this post, I can't even remember what we did for Mother's Day in the first lockdown ... which started the day after on 23rd March. I think we had a takeaway roast from our local pub! I know my children had organised an outing but it all had to change! Anyway, it looks like we will be celebrating Mother's Day 2021 on Sunday 14th March, in much the same way, at home! So I am bringing you a few gift ideas, continuing my Christmas gift theme of uncluttered gifting based on things that can be used or experienced. Hopefully some ideas for things you might like and can give hints to your children, or some ideas to treat your own mum. I'm really excited to share these ideas with you, some really gorgeous gifts ... Flowers - keep it simple, I love to buy my own mum bunches of daffodils as soon as they start appearing, it's such an uplifting way to remind us that spring is on the way. Buy several bunches and have them wrapped in pretty tissue paper with a gift tag. I'd be delighted to receive. Or if you want to splash out a bit more, then I really do love Freddie's Flowers, a flower delivery service, you can subscribe or buy a one off as a gift. Afternoon tea - it would be lovely to go out of course but for now, how about getting an afternoon tea delivered or making your own! We have done both during lockdown. We made our own for the VE Day celebrations and delivered to my mum and dad to enjoy in their garden and we also had one delivered more recently from Strawberry Grove. Below, our last 'Mother's Day' outing in 2019. Sunday lunch - this of course is the traditional way to celebrate, take mum out and give her a day off cooking! But if pubs and restaurants are still closed, organise a home delivery instead Or even if you can't visit, organise a delivery and a zoom call? I've loved seeing how restaurants (and other small businesses) have adapted to lockdown life and there are so many fabulous options now, from a full delivery ready to serve to a meal that just needs finishing off in your own oven - or if your own children want to cook for you, how about suggesting something like Gousto - I love their 10 minute meals or Prep in 5 options. If you use my referral link you can get 50% off your first box and 30% off your first month - use code MICHE25727219. Freshly baked blondies - if you are not into baking yourself, or mum lives a distance away, do have a look at the fresh bakes from Lewis & Baker, they deliver in a beautiful box, have an amazing selection including brownies, blondies and flapjacks and they make a change from the usual chocolates! Candles, cards and other fun gifts - I was sent a super sweet and unique card and candle from Lucy's Farm recently. It is always such an honour to be approached by a small business, and I am so often in awe of their amazing talents. And Lucy is so talented, her website is a treasure trove of art, she works full time as an artist producing the most amazing selection of original paintings, prints, homeware and stationery. You can even buy a voucher for a pet portrait. And her 'Selfie Series' is unique to Lucy's Farm in Dorset and brings together paintings of animals and local Dorset landscapes. The series started with the Moos and now includes sheep, donkeys, goats and stags. And you can also commission Lucy to do a selfie of your own pet! I think Lucy's work needs a bigger showcase on my blog, so I will be back with more from Lucy soon I hope. Lucy kindly sent me a Mother's Day 'I Love Moo Mum' Candle, they are made with pure soy wax and are scented like freshly cut grass to evoke the wonderful feeling that spring brings! The card is from a selection on the website and is lovely quality and is left blank for your own message! Do take a look around Lucy's website and she has a shop in Swanage and is stocked in a number of other locations. Beauty - how about treating mum to a bit of luxury, something she might not buy herself, we can't go on spa days yet but we can get the next best thing with some time off and some me time spa day at home. Why not put a few treats together from my suggestions below: Lumity offer a targeted anti-ageing routine for your skin and body. I tried out their cleanser and facial oil a while back and I loved their supplements. They have just recently launched two 'booster' supplements too, one for nights and one to support energy. Something from Lumity would be a real treat for mum. Use my Lumity discount code FIFTY&FAB30 here. Elemis has just appeared on my wish list, I saw Sunrise Health & Beauty sharing the Elemis Frangipani Monoi Salt Glow from Elemis on their instagram this week! Use twice a week for smooth and soft skin, it is time to get spring/summer ready! Green People is an organic lifestyle online shop offering a selection of products for women, men, children, pets / across skincare, body, sun, make-up and hair. The Age Defy+ range by Cha Vøhtz is their signature range from the founder of Green People, Charlotte Vøhtz and they sent me their Age Defy+ Infinite Beauty Gift Set to try out. I really loved it, it contains their collagen boost vitamin c serum, a cell enrich facial oil and a sachet sized skin-nutrient sleep mask. It comes in a box and ready to gift, a real treat! Gem's Cream is a lovely treat for dry skin and I especially love using it on my feet. Gem is my niece, she has just had her first baby but is still busy making her cream from her beautiful kitchen in Devon. Affordable, natural and lovely packaging, it works and it will look pretty on mum's dressing table. Gem's Natural Skin care can be found here. Dermaworks offer effective, affordable and easy to use anti-ageing skincare, they have a selection of serums and moisturisers for skin as well as for eyebrows and eyelashes. Really advanced products but at sensible prices, a lovely gift. Use this link and the code FIFTYFAB for 10% off. Jewellery, scarves and other small gifts - be careful not to get too much into the 'cluttered' category here but a carefully chosen scarf in just the right colour or a pretty pair of earrings are always appreciated. I can recommend a few small businesses that are offering to help with your shopping via video call or direct delivery. Take a look at Wild at Heart for a fabulous selection and Emily really is very friendly and helpful. Her packages arrive wrapped and looking fabulous! Or you know how much I love The Wendy House, Wendy is very willing to help you choose a gift either over the phone or video, I successfully chose a necklace recently and Wendy was able to send photos, a video and all the measurements. And another great website is Amelia Rose Accessories, I can really recommend the chunky strap cross body bags with interchangeable straps! They may be small but they look amazing, and are perfect for phone and lipstick on a night out! I hope you all have a really relaxing Mother's Day, full of love and laughter whatever you decide to do! Some lovely thoughtful ideas. The blondies or flapjacks is a really nice idea. I remember well Mother's Day last year. I had booked the Grand Hotel in Torquay for our usual Mother's Day lunch, but lockdown started bang on that weekend so I couldn't go. I was so hoping we could meet up this year - Mum lives a long way from me (in Devon) so I haven't seen her now since Sept.
