So last week I visited the Pretty Ballerina’s shop in the Kings Road, Chelsea and I bought a pair of burgundy ballerina flats. I preferred the burgundy to the bright red and they are a style I have had before (in navy) so I knew they’d be comfortable. Perfect autumn shoe before going into boots. However, when I got home, I worried whether I’d made the right decision about the colour as I have a new handbag with red detailing on it, would it clash? I mentioned this to my nearly 16 year old daughter who told me I was being way too fussy and they’d look lovely. Remember at nearly 50 I was bought up in an era where everything had to be matchy matchy (shoes and handbags). Then last night I was sat reading my new Woman & Home magazine and there was a fashion feature on … burgundy and red! The Style Director from Hobbs says ‘Red – wear it as a highlight colour with black or navy, but red looks especially new when worn with burgundy’. Mix burgundy and red you are totally on trend! So it seems my daughter was right and I shall be looking for ways to subtly incorporate the two into my wardrobe this autumn. Michelle x
