The last year has meant many of us are now choosing to ditch the underwired bras and bikini panties in favour of more comfort and a soft bra or seamless t-shirt bra is a top choice. I recently read some research that said we are also preferring 'Bridget Jones Pants' and opting for a higher rise style! I don't usually go for 'big knickers' but when Playtex got in touch to ask if I'd like to choose a lingerie set from their current range I thought I would try out that undie drawer staple - a black lingerie set but with a different style of pant - big knickers! I also came across Kate Garraway's book 'The Joy of Big Knickers' .... have you read it?! I was actually really lucky to have the opportunity to try out two sets, because Maidenform also sent me a bra and thong to try. So let's have a look at the two 'black lingerie set' options. Both have comfort in mind, both are black (but available in different colours too) and both are still really stylish and lovely to look at as well as feeling beautiful to wear. This is the Playtex Perfect Silhouette black underwired bra and matching brief. The bra is underwired, it has a delicate sheer panel, and is perfect for a special occasion or as an everyday bra. It offers a flattering shape and has supportive wider straps. I love the vintage feel reminiscent of the 40's and 50's. The briefs are high waisted and have integrated tummy support without feeling tight, they are still easy to put on and do not create any bulk or VPL under your clothes. I love the sculpting effect of these satin and lace panel briefs. This set comes in the black and white too. My black gown is from Cyber Jammies, one of my favourite brands for sleepwear and cotton dressing gowns. The second set is from Maidenform and the black bra is from their Pure Comfort range, it is a wireless t-shirt bra that gives a natural lift, will not show under tighter fitting clothes and has convertible straps so that you can wear it under a racer back for example. It is perfect for wearing with leisurewear for everyday comfort. I am wearing the Maidenform Everyday Smooth it Out Thong here. This is an incredibly comfortable thong with a high waist and tummy smoothing lace panel to give light support. I love the delicate lace edging on the t-shirt bra and the thong is super flattering and easy to wear. Both the bra and the thong are ideal for everyday wear under comfortable clothes, they both create a really smooth base. There is something very reassuring about 'big knickers' they hold everything in and I think they can still look and feel sexy if chosen correctly. Despite outward appearances - yes I do pose in my underwear on my blog - I am not that body confident, it is still a work in progress. I am petite but I have body hangups and areas that I perceive to be a problem. I am just good at disguising them and I know what flatters me. And I always remember ... confidence is sexy, wear it daily! My shirt is the heart polka dot stripe shirt from Mint Velvet. What colour bra is your favourite? I did some quick research and nude seems to be the most popular wardrobe staple, I have one nude set. But black or white must be up there with the easiest to wear. Both these lingerie sets come in different colour options - the Maidenform bra is also available in pink, navy and nude and the Playtex comes in black or white. I don't think we need to worry too much about our underwear showing, these taboos are no longer a thing in the modern style stakes. I am quite happy to wear a black bra under a lighter shirt for example. And a white lace bra under a sheer blouse can add to the detail, looks pretty and a nod to sexy. I ban a VPL (visible panty line) or a busy pattern under white jeans though! But bras are made to be seen ... it is okay to tastefully show a little bit of lace. How do you choose your lingerie? Is comfort or beauty your priority? Let me know in the comments below. I want comfort but I have to have pretty too! Love from Michelle xx Disclaimer: Both lingerie sets are PR products/gifts, I was under no obligation to post.
