Autumn is now properly with us. The world is still in a mess and I am still utterly fed up with it all. But I have been sorting my wardrobe out, some things never change. And this year I have a bit more space to do that and as we are not going 'out out' much I am using the opportunity to buy less, because I need less. And even if I was going out, well I still have too much and need less. Sound familiar? I am actually too embarrassed to count how many jeans and bikinis I have. Clearly my obsession is with the perfect denim and the perfect bikini! But I am enjoying seeing what I have and creating outfits by 'shopping my wardrobe' more it is amazing how many combinations you can create. If I do buy then I am choosing carefully and filling gaps - and one gap I had - black chunky boots! Read on for a few outfit ideas and to see the new chunky boots from Cara. First outfit, the leather biker is last years investment purchase. I'd had a leather biker before but felt it was a bit big. I had gone for my usual 10 but a biker should fit really snuggly or risk looking a bit frumpy. I waited until the big pre-Christmas discounts and picked up this one - the Dalby Leather Biker from All Saints - as recommended by Avril from A Life to Style. My jumper is a simple black crew neck from Marks & Spencer, I have it in black, red and cream and it sits really neatly tucked into skirts - similar here. My skirt is previous season Warehouse and my necklace is from a selection at The Wendy House. But the best bit, I decided it was time to invest in chunky boots. Now this year they have got really chunky and I am not so sure so I searched around and found this fabulous military inspired patent leather pair from Cara Shoes - they were an investment at £150 but I love them, you can see them here, Hardwick from Cara - stock is getting low though. They got a lot of love when I posted them on my instagram grid. Next up is an outfit I was experimenting with. Sometimes when I go over to see Wendy at The Wendy House, I bring back a few items to try on (a PR loan I suppose) and I do some photos and then Wendy can share them on her website and social media. Wendy and I are two very different shapes, sizes and styles so it is fun to see how we interpret into different outfits. Again I am wearing a pleated skirt, this one is from Wendy, with the Hardwick boots from Cara (linked above), and the jumper is a step up from the simple one above, it is from Cream at The Wendy House and has a frill around the cuffs and neckline, it is incredibly soft and warm. I then added my own (past season) blush pink scarf. I love wearing pink in the autumn/winter months as well as spring/summer. I think the shade changes slightly to a more blush or dusty pink. The jumper below is another one from The Wendy House, this time by Luella. It is a super flattering shape without being too long. A few more autumn shades below, the navy 'amour' is an autumn favourite from Hush (past season). My blouse (left) is pre-loved from My Boudoir in Marlow, the little fur bag is an inexpensive update and is available from Diana's Wardrobe. I love my selection of knitted ponchos in the autumn, this one is from Jigsaw but Creative DeZigns have some gorgeous cotton ones in a lovely selection of colours. And finally (right) my vest top and cardigan are from Jak & Liza in Beaconsfield, both previous season, but similar available. Just thought I'd throw in some reality! My blog and insta pics still involve rain and when my daughter is not at home to help with taking photos I now have to look like a mad woman with my tripod and clicker. On the left is a lovely little cardigan from Mango (reduced and limited sizes) worn with coated jeans and a previous season scarf. And the boots look great with coated jeans too! But really I need a coat and a hood to actually head out so no one gets to see much of the outfit! Excuse some of the lighting in these photos, it really isn't easy! Left is a previous season Hush jumper, I love Hush so much, always worth a look. In the middle I am wearing a shirt from Luella at The Wendy House and pattern mixing again with my animal print bag. Finally, this simple sweat is 'tres chic' and designed by Wendy and available from The Wendy House. Hopefully a bit of inspiration there. It doesn't have to all be new and it doesn't have to all be dressed up and insta-ready. I spend a lot of time at home (even more this year) so my outfits are mostly practical for daily housework, dashes to the shops and an occasional lunch or coffee thrown in. I do notice I wear a lot of dresses in the warmer summer months but once it gets colder I can't be bothered with the faff of tights so I move to jeans and coated / pleather jeans. Or skirts, because a jumper neatly tucked in is warmer than a dress and if I can avoid tights by wearing long boots then that is my preference! Animal print has featured lots! It is a new neutral and perfect for autumn colours. Don't be afraid to pattern clash a bit with animal print! Love from Michelle Disclaimer: no items on this post were gifted to me. I saw this outfit on your IG page and copied it the other day! Nice to find an easy to wear skirt and boots are my best friend in Autumn - I've got my eye on a pair of heeled slouch boots in black (i have them in tan already and love them) I'll see what comes my way and what I think of the flat boots, but yours look delicious. Some lovely outfits Wendy. I am with you on wearing tights ! Have you tried leggings under a dress ( dress needs to be long and leggings short ) and thin socks in your ankle boots to the top of the boot. It is so much easier throwing on trousers, jeans or smart joggers when it turns cooler though !!! xx
