The best healthy summer resolutions

17/8/2022

Collaborative Post | Summer can be a fantastic time of the year and a great chance to get out, spend time with loved ones and go on holiday. It is a time of the year that can take its toll on your health, especially during heatwaves like we have recently seen. Here are a few healthy summer resolutions that should help you to stay healthy and make the most out of this time of the year.

Stay hydrated

It can be very easy to become dehydrated in the summer, particularly during a heatwave. This is why you need to make a conscious effort to drink water - it is recommended that men drink around 3.7 litres a day and 2.7 for women. It can be helpful to fill up a few litre bottles of water to put in the fridge so that you can easily monitor how much you are drinking each day.

Eat healthily

You also need to maintain a healthy diet during summer so that your body has all of the nutrients that it needs. You can find lots of good summer recipes online, such as crunchy veggie stir-fry that you can easily cook in a wok at home.

Apply sunscreen

It is important to get into the habit of applying sunscreen before leaving the house during summer (and even throughout the year). This will protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent sunburn. You should also try to limit time in the sun and seek out shade where possible.

Be social without blowing your budget

Summer tends to be a busy time socially and often includes holidays, long afternoons in pub gardens and music festivals. You need to be careful with your budget during the summer months as you do not want to overspend and make things difficult for yourself in the autumn and winter (especially with the cost of living crisis predicted to get worse later in the year).

Exercise outdoors

Obviously, exercise is vital for your health and wellbeing. Summer can be a great opportunity to exercise outdoors whether this is jogging, cycling, swimming outdoors or competitive sports. There are many benefits to outdoor exercise, but it might be best avoided on hot days where a gym (with AC) might be the better option.

These resolutions should help you to lead a happy, healthy and enjoyable lifestyle during the warmer months and help you to make the most out of this time of the year.
