5 Things You Must Do in Durham

28/2/2022

If you are looking for a cool place to visit in the UK, you might have just found one. Durham is a city to the north-eastern part of the country, next to Newcastle upon Tyne.

Durham is a big cathedral city, which attracts many British and international tourists thanks to its natural beauty and the stunning edifices, churches and castles that mesmerise and leave travellers speechless. In order to visit all the must-see attractions in the limited time you have, you should hire a car to take you wherever your heart desires. A ride from Enjoy Travel guarantees that you will reach your destination comfortably, safely and fast. Then, you will have all the energy in the world to explore all 5 and even more awesome attractions in Durham.

Attraction 1: Durham Cathedral

One of the first things that you should see once you get to the city is its cathedral. It is a massive, breathtakingly beautiful building. Both the exterior and the interior of this mediaeval church will fascinate you. Taking photos of the interior of the cathedral was banned, but thankfully this has been retracted and visitors are allowed to capture the magnificent stained glass windows and the tomb of St Cuthbert, whose body was carried to the Cathedral by monks.

Attraction 2: Durham Castle

Another site that you have to visit when you go to the city is Durham Castle. It has been occupied by Prince Bishops of Durham since the 11th century, and it is now utilised by the city’s university. Tours are held daily for everyone who is interested in learning more about it. It is a spectacular experience as visitors get to admire the fine art and the impressive architecture of the interior of the castle.

Attraction 3: Durham Museum

If you want to learn everything there is to know about this amazing city, you have to go to the Durham Museum. There you will get to see and live the history of Durham as there are displays of objects and reconstructions of the city during the mediaeval age and a Victorian prison cell. All the information provided in the museum dates back from the Mediaeval times to the 20th century.

Attraction 4: Durham University Botanic Garden

If you want to spend a quiet and relaxing day outdoors, the Durham University Botanic Garden is the place you need to go. It is a 25 acre land full with collections of exotic plants, a glasshouse, and green space to have a picnic with your family and friends.

Attraction 5: High Force Waterfall

On a day you feel more adventurous, you should get outside the city and visit High Force Waterfall. This is one of England’s most impressive waterfalls. You get to walk along trails of stunning natural beauty full with animals, plants and towering trees until you reach the spot where the gentle River Tees suddenly drops 21 metres down.

Common reasons people use a locksmith

22/2/2022

Collaborative post | You may not think much about locksmiths, especially if you’ve never needed one before or know what services they provide – they help you if you ever get locked out of your house but they actually do much more than that!

If you do think that you need a locksmith or if any of the following situations seem familiar, then find a Portsmouth locksmith and see how they can help you.

Broken keys

If you have ever gotten your keys stuck in your lock then you know how frustrating it can be to try and get it out, chances are that you probably wrestled with it a little too much and ended up breaking it off in the lock. A locksmith can get this broken piece out of the lock without causing any damage which means you will not have to get it replaced. They should also thoroughly clean out the lock for you to prevent this situation from reoccurring.

Unlock a car door

Locksmiths do not only unlock the doors to your home, but they can also help you get into a locked car if needed. They have specialist tools to get the car open if your keys are locked inside or broken – but you will need to provide proof that you own the vehicle before they will go ahead with this.

Change your locks

Sometimes you may wish to have your locks changed or add more locks to your home to help make it more secure. If you have been the victim of a break-in or had your keys stolen, then you should hire a professional locksmith to come and make some changes to your home security. They can fit new locks securely and ensure they are completely tamper-proof. You can also get some advice from them about what other ways you can make your home safer and the best security system for you.

Lock repair

If you find that your lock is stiff, your key is getting stuck, or it is not locking securely then you should find a local locksmith to fix it for you. More often than not, a locksmith will be able to repair the lock completely without needing to replace it. A dodgy lock is usually caused by general wear and tear and you can avoid the need for repairs by getting your locks cleaned regularly – another service that locksmiths provide.

Emergency services

Sometimes locksmiths are needed urgently to resolve a problem for you such as being locked out of your house, office, or car. In these situations, you will need to call an emergency locksmith that offers 24-hour services. When we get locked out, we can usually get someone with a spare key or find another way in, but if this is not possible then you should find a local locksmith near to your location as they can sometimes get to you within the hour. Emergency locksmiths should be available at any hour of the day or night, even those inconvenient times when no one else is picking up their phone!

Keeping your sparkler safe | what you should know about insuring your jewellery

7/2/2022

You’ve popped the champagne, toasted with family and friends and you can’t stop staring at your left hand. You’re engaged! The next step – before you even say yes to the dress – is to make sure you protect that glittering diamond and keep it safe for many happy years to come.

For most people, an engagement ring is the single most valuable piece of jewellery they own. So, like your home and car, it’s vital to make sure it’s insured and stored safely. Not sure where to start? We’ve outlined a couple of simple steps to help you on your way.

Call your insurer

Many couples insure an engagement ring under their household insurance, such as the home insurance policies with FBD. Most contents cover will include jewellery, but depending on its value, the ring might need to be added as a specified item. It’s important to take your time to go through the details and arrange the right cover for you and your lifestyle. It might also be a good time to evaluate your overall home insurance, especially if you’ve recently renovated, built an extension or purchased new additions for the home. If you’re lucky enough to receive high-value gifts for your engagement or wedding, you’ll want to make sure that these are protected as well, especially if you’re planning on heading off for an exotic honeymoon overseas.

Valuation

In the event of a claim, insurance companies will usually ask for supporting documentation, such as the receipt or an original valuation. The jeweller you or your beloved purchased the ring from will often provide a valuation without charge. If not, the price depends on the value of the ring, and can usually be negotiated. You should choose a reputable jeweller with proper accreditations for this task, as you want to ensure you get an accurate valuation you can rely on. It’s important also to keep the original document safe, sending it to the insurance company by registered post and asking for it to be returned when they’re finished their inspection. Some insurers require you to get the ring valued every couple of years, as the value of jewellery, especially diamonds, can fluctuate. You don’t want to be under or over-insured.

Check the fine print

When it comes to special high-value items such as engagement rings, most insurance policies have certain requirements regarding valuation, maintenance and storage.  It’s always a good idea to read through the paperwork and ensure you’re covered for all eventualities including loss, destruction or theft. For most people, it makes sense to get cover for outside the home, as well as inside. Rings can sometimes go missing on holidays - they can easily slip off fingers slick with suncream - so you should probably check that it’s insured overseas before you fly. Depending on the value of your ring, you may be required to keep it in a locked safe when not wearing it. Be careful to take note of these little details so that you’re fully covered should the worst happen.

Keeping it safe

We’ve all seen those social media posts about rings lost in swimming pools, shopping centres and even down a lift shaft. You don’t want that to be you, so have a think about how you can keep your beautiful new ring safe as you go about your daily life. There are small changes you can make that’ll help protect your ring, such as using hotel safes on holidays and secure lockers in the gym. Make sure you don’t leave it out on display at home, and it might be a good idea to leave it on while washing your hands - you certainly don’t want to leave it behind, or worse, watch it disappear down the sink! It can be tricky too to make sure it fits properly, depending on how warm or cool your hands are - if it’s a little loose, you should get it resized or even get a ring-guard fitted. Weddingbee has a handy guide to making sure it sits just right on your finger.

Maintenance

Depending on your contents cover or your specified item policy, you might find that you need to get a professional jeweller to check the ring’s settings every two years or so: nobody wants that precious diamond to come loose. That’s often a good time to get it cleaned, too, as hand sanitiser, creams and washing-up liquid can build up on jewellery, dulling the sparkling effect of a precious jewel. It’s important you bring your ring to a professional, well-recognised and fully insured jeweller to be cleaned or checked, though, so that it’s in safe hands.

Making sure your engagement ring is protected and insured will help give you the peace of mind you need to enjoy this special time of your life - all you have to do now is send out the invitations, organise the party, and show up on the big day!
