5 Things You Must Do in Durham

28/2/2022

If you are looking for a cool place to visit in the UK, you might have just found one. Durham is a city to the north-eastern part of the country, next to Newcastle upon Tyne.

Durham is a big cathedral city, which attracts many British and international tourists thanks to its natural beauty and the stunning edifices, churches and castles that mesmerise and leave travellers speechless. In order to visit all the must-see attractions in the limited time you have, you should hire a car to take you wherever your heart desires. A ride from Enjoy Travel guarantees that you will reach your destination comfortably, safely and fast. Then, you will have all the energy in the world to explore all 5 and even more awesome attractions in Durham.

Attraction 1: Durham Cathedral

One of the first things that you should see once you get to the city is its cathedral. It is a massive, breathtakingly beautiful building. Both the exterior and the interior of this mediaeval church will fascinate you. Taking photos of the interior of the cathedral was banned, but thankfully this has been retracted and visitors are allowed to capture the magnificent stained glass windows and the tomb of St Cuthbert, whose body was carried to the Cathedral by monks.

Attraction 2: Durham Castle

Another site that you have to visit when you go to the city is Durham Castle. It has been occupied by Prince Bishops of Durham since the 11th century, and it is now utilised by the city’s university. Tours are held daily for everyone who is interested in learning more about it. It is a spectacular experience as visitors get to admire the fine art and the impressive architecture of the interior of the castle.

Attraction 3: Durham Museum

If you want to learn everything there is to know about this amazing city, you have to go to the Durham Museum. There you will get to see and live the history of Durham as there are displays of objects and reconstructions of the city during the mediaeval age and a Victorian prison cell. All the information provided in the museum dates back from the Mediaeval times to the 20th century.

Attraction 4: Durham University Botanic Garden

If you want to spend a quiet and relaxing day outdoors, the Durham University Botanic Garden is the place you need to go. It is a 25 acre land full with collections of exotic plants, a glasshouse, and green space to have a picnic with your family and friends.

Attraction 5: High Force Waterfall

On a day you feel more adventurous, you should get outside the city and visit High Force Waterfall. This is one of England’s most impressive waterfalls. You get to walk along trails of stunning natural beauty full with animals, plants and towering trees until you reach the spot where the gentle River Tees suddenly drops 21 metres down.
