The woodworking equipment you need to make your life easier

21/5/2023

Collaborative Post | With a wealth of quality woodworking machinery on the market, choosing the best equipment to make your life easier can be challenging and expensive.

Yet the good news is that you don’t have to buy everything new. Many quality used and refurbished items to make your life easier are available from suppliers such as Calderbrook Woodworking Machinery, and it’s likely to be easier on your bank balance too! Keeping this in mind, let’s look at what you may not have in your workshop that you might want to consider.

Tools to help a woodworking shop run smoothly:

  • Table saw – no matter whether you run on a large or small scale, a table saw is a must. They are faster, more accurate and come with a wide range of jigs. They make life easier than using a mitre/circular saw combination. Table saws can help with mitre cutting and cross cuts, and the right size mitre saw can double as a workbench. Buying a used or refurbished mitre saw can help you get a better saw for your budget than purchasing new.
  • Planer thicknesser – again, no matter the size or productivity of your woodworking shop, a planer thicknesser will make life easier when you need a precise thickness or when you want to straighten up any unwanted bends in your wood.
  • Wide belt sander – if you take your woodworking seriously, then a wide belt sander that allows finishing, calibration, denibbing and planning, as well as the option to add a bottom sander so you can work both sides of the material in one go, are recognised as one of the most significant labour saving devices for a woodwork shop. You don’t need to be a tech whizz! Modern computer versions are straightforward to operate and control.
  • CNC Router – you might consider this a luxury, but once purchased, you will love the flexibility and accuracy it gives you to create high-quality cut pieces. The high productivity rate achievable with the computer interface makes your life easier and your products of high quality that are easily replicated. It could change your way of working for the better without extra strain on your muscles.
  • Ergonomic working – a range of workbenches, lift tables, and workstations are available to make your life easier and more comfortable. They will reduce strains and injuries and ensure that your working environment has the tools to protect the workforce from accidents caused by heavy lifting or awkward operating practices.
  • Combination machines – if space is at a premium, you could make life easier with a woodworking machine that performs multiple tasks. You can saw panels and rip, use it at a planer thicknesser or use a spindle moulder for shaping.
  • Chisels certainly don’t come under big equipment, but they are a prerequisite of most woodworking shops, so it pays to buy the best you can afford. They will last longer and make resharpening better.
  • Clamps – again, not in the big league, but holding your work together with suitable clamps is a must. It will prevent accidents if your material is held securely while you work or while any glue hardens. You aren’t an octopus, so use suitable clamps to make your life easier.

It’s Not All About The Tools
Lastly, we must mention dust extraction equipment. This might not seem to make your life instantly easier, but it will undoubtedly make it more comfortable. Wood dust causes serious health problems, so having the right dust extraction equipment in place should be considered essential. No matter how well-ventilated your workshop is, the dust created when working with wood is immense. Settled dust particles will, over time, impact your lungs considerably, making life harder. A suitable dust extractor unit will reduce the amount of damaging dust in the air. Some machinery can include local exhaust ventilation. However, we always recommend you take expert advice to choose the best overall solutions for your environment.

18/5/2023

Collaborative Post | After months of chilly weather, spring has well and truly sprung which means that summer is just around the corner. Statement straw hat

What better way to make a statement with your look than with an oversized hat? Think Andie MacDowell’s entrance in the beloved British rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Classic straw hats are back this year, but bigger than ever before and in a range of unusual designs. Traditionalists can stick with enlarged wide-brimmed styles, while those looking to revamp their look will delight in the funky cowboy hats and 90s-inspired roll-up visors.

Bags with a bang

It seems that all trending accessories for summer 2023 are about making a statement – and bags are no exception.

Many designers are running with the idea that ‘bigger is better’. Laidback lovers of boho-chic will delight in the vast colourful crochet numbers such as the Granny Square Shoulder Bag by Anya Hindmarch, or you can opt for a large leather tote in a muted tone like camel or stone.

Bags are also being influenced by the recent 90s revival, with brands like Coach and Chanel releasing a range of small shoulder bags in blush and hot pink to honour the upcoming Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling that is set to be the biggest cinematic release of the summer.

Designer watches

The world of watches has been flourishing recently as people get back into the swing of office working and the daily commute. This season, function is meeting fashion: the luxury watch is being upheld as the ultimate wrist adornment for summer.

Watches from high-end designers like OMEGA are wonderfully varied, with options to suit every lifestyle and personal taste. Choices range from delicate gem-embellished designs and subtle silver bracelets to bold black rubber straps and vibrant smartwatches with all the latest tech.

Eye-catching earrings

Given the ‘in-your-face’ hats and bags that are trending this summer, it will come as no surprise that subtle studs are being replaced by eye-catching earrings this season.

The 90s is a common theme in ear accessories, too, with hoop earrings making a comeback. This revival is seeing hoop earrings reimagined in a medium size, in designs that are more chunky and embellished than their classic counterparts.

Drop earrings are a great alternative if hoops aren’t your thing. Big brands like DIOR and Saint Laurent have created dramatic drop earrings in gold with their logo prominent in the design. DIOR’s entire collection of drop earrings is sure to attract attention, dominated by large pearls and gemstone detailing.

5 common mistakes to avoid in Job Descriptions and Responsibilities

17/5/2023

Collaborative Post | According to a study, graduate jobs have increased by 41% compared to last year. This brings happy news for the job sector. The markets are coming back to normalcy from the covid 19 winter. New startups are looking to hire competent employees.

Are you starting your new venture and looking to hire new employees?

If it is so, you must get a high-quality job description containing the precise roles and responsibilities. They attract the best candidates that suit your requirements. Job descriptions play a major role in recruitment; therefore, you must focus on them. The following job description describes the most common mistakes to avoid job descriptions and responsibilities.

What is a Job Description?

The job description contains the specific roles and responsibilities against a post. Through the description, the employers convey their expectations from the potential candidates.
With the help of the job description, the employer screens the best employees. The good and effective job description works as the initial filtration. Only the people who find themselves fit to fill the post apply for the position.

It must be approached with utmost professionalism. Get sample job descriptions from renowned professional services. They can deliver it right for you.

Five common mistakes to avoid in Job Descriptions

Many businesses do not pay heed to preparing the job description. Consequently, they need to prepare the right candidates. So you have to make sure that you have a professional approach.

Whatever you do, whether you are in the travel and tourism sector or retail business, you have to be particular regarding the preparation of the job description. Here we discuss five common mistakes to avoid in a job description.

1. Copy Paste The Job Description

The most common mistake businesses, especially small businesses, make is copying material from job descriptions in similar roles. This is tactically the biggest mistake that you make.

First, it is morally wrong as you are taking away the hard work of others and trying to optimise it. It's called plagiarism.

Most importantly, you are jeopardising your opportunities to hire your company's best employees. The potential candidates should be precise with the roles, responsibilities, expectations and salary before applying. If they view something generic, they move out from your advertisement.

2. Exaggerating Your Company's Position

Sometimes the companies, with an aim to get the best employees, unnecessarily inflate the roles and responsibilities artificially through expressions. It does nothing but increases unrealistic expectations and confusion for the candidate.

These inflated expressions discourage many good and eligible candidates who could have been fit for the post. Unrealistic expectations move the candidate away from your radar. Be precise with your drafting of the roles and responsibilities.

3. Vague Job Description

Presently companies are focussing on flexible hours and remote working. It is better to clear your position without vagueness.

Vague job descriptions can never help you get the right candidate for the post. It is one of the mistakes that you make while preparing the job description. Only write titles that do not convey the basic idea regarding the job requirements.

For instance, titles like "content creator" mean many things, like writing blog posts, product descriptions, Youtube videos, and others. The title becomes so expansive that numerous applicants associate it with the job description. You have to target the right group of people against the post.

4. Not Filtering The Job Descriptions For Errors Or Legal Issues

One of the problems that you have with the job description is using a lenient approach to your job post.

If you need to correct the spelling and grammatical mistakes, it reflects your negative image as a recruiter. Thus your efforts may get thwarted.

4. Using Technical Terms And Jargon

Using too many technical terms and jargon can be frustrating to comprehend sometimes. The average time job-seekers watch job advertisements is around 49.7 seconds. Hence the time of focus is quite low.

Now under this situation, if you end up preparing a job advertisement filled with useless jargon and technical terms, it can completely take the potential candidate away from your job advertisement.

Bringing the discussion to a close

Job Description must be taken with serious intent, and not doing it can completely mar your efforts of getting the best employees.

Therefore, you need to focus on the basics to make it right. Take the help of professionals. Finally, avoid the mistakes discussed above. Avoid these mistakes to make a compelling advertisement. Use expert advice.
