What are the factors affecting dental implant costs?

2/4/2025

Collaborative Post | With providers up and down the country offering dental implants and different dental implant costs, it can be hard to know if you are getting a good deal or being led up the garden path.

Unfortunately, as a treatment option that comes in many forms, it isn’t possible to have one price for all dental implants.

So, to understand what you are paying for, let’s consider the factors affecting dental implant costs!

What affects dental implant costs?

The main reason that dental implant prices change is a culmination of the:
  • Number of implants
  • Implant materials used
  • Implant location and complexity
Once all of these factors are considered, implantologists can then offer a bespoke price per patient for their chosen treatment type – which you can compare with others to find the right one for you.

Number of implants

As you might imagine, the more dental implant screws are needed and fitted, the higher the cost of treatment might be.

For this reason, a single dental implant to replace one missing tooth will cost significantly less than full mouth dental implant treatments that restore a whole upper or lower jaw.
Implant materials usedWhen talking about dental implant materials, you need to consider both the dental implant itself and the crown/bridge/prosthetic that is used to top it.

Most dental implant screws are made from medical or dental-grade titanium as it:
  • Biocompatible - doesn’t harm the structures of the body when implanted.
  • Helps improve osseointegration – which is essential for helping bone cells bond to the implant, which keeps them steady and secure for years to come.
There is greater choice for the crown, bridge, or prosthetic and this tends to change depending on the manufacturer of the implant system. These can commonly be porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, metal, or resin – all of which have their own benefits in terms of looking natural, personalisation, strength, and durability.

All of these materials will come at a different price point thanks to their unique benefits, which will, of course, affect the dental implant cost.

Implant location and complexity

If you have complications like low bone levels or need extra treatments like sinus lifts, some providers can avoid this and lower the dental implant cost and treatment timeline by fitting specialist implant types. This includes pre-maxilla, pre-mandible and pterygoid implants.

Considered vastly more complex, this dental implant treatment type will likely cost more but can still save you money by allowing you to avoid extra treatments like bone grafts and sinus lifts.

Find clear and simple dental implant costs from trusted providers

No matter where you choose to go for your dental implants, it’s essential you choose a provider that shares their pricing structure clearly and can talk you through it without issue.

This will ensure you know exactly what you are paying for, can properly compare it to other quotes, and will help you to make an informed decision about who is right for you.
