Collaborative Post | January and February seem to stretch forever. But, soon enough, winter will melt away, and spring will rear its much-welcome head. And as seasons shift, so should your wardrobe. Let’s be honest: nobody wants to fund an entire wardrobe overhaul, especially post-Christmas. Instead, look for items that are weather-appropriate for both seasons. Here are the wardrobe staples that look stylish across winter and spring. Photo by Amanda Canas on Unsplash 1. Layering fundamentals: build a flexible baseStart simple. Layering is the secret to stunning winter outfits, and the good news is, repurposing these items is easy. Lightweight clothing, like t-shirts and trusty knits, will continue to “wow” in spring. In the UK, temperatures are still hovering around 10°C; anything that can be easily removed or layered is a smart choice. Mix and match this base. You might just find that wintry mid-layers steal the springtime show – heavier coats are the first to disappear. 2. Transitional outerwear: from wool coats to light jacketsThick coats are the perfect defence against onslaughts of sleet and rain. In winter, there’s nothing better than swaddling yourself in a woollen trench. Yet, in spring, the weather becomes milder, and these heavy defences begin to feel warm. Switching to a lighter alternative is the easiest way to transition between wardrobes. Anything wind and waterproof is a great option. That said, some trends are here to stay. Fuzzy textures were amongst the items Vogue editors were loving this winter; why not incorporate that into your spring wardrobe? 3. Everyday bottoms: jeans, tailored trousers and soft skirtsLast spring revealed some interesting “bottom” trends. From checkered shorts to maximalist midi skirts, it was a reminder to embrace individuality. Whether you’re excitedly pulling these items from storage or have shopped for new looks, the trick is learning how to stay warm. Well-fitted jeans and tailored trousers are the perfect compromise for that late-winter-to-early-spring transition. But if skirts are calling your name, start with tights – only switch to bare legs once the weather forecast looks kinder. It’s worth picking skirts that pair with different shoe styles, too. The more versatility? The better. 4. Versatile dresses: from knit dresses to lightweight dressesDresses shift between seasons with surprising ease. In winter, women’s dresses pair beautifully with sturdy boots and thick trench coats. In spring, just lose the heavy layering. Simply add a light jacket with flat shoes or heels, and watch the same dress glow.
Switching seasons doesn’t have to be expensive. Start with these four strategies, and embrace your springtime self. Disclaimer: this is a collaborative post. Comments are closed.
