Collaborative Post | Slovenia is a part of Europe that’s often overlooked in favour of more familiar nations. So, what is there that appeals to this little corner of the continent? If you’re looking to plan a tour of the continent, perhaps after you retire, then you’ll want to make a stop here. Let’s take a closer look at some of the things that distinguish Slovenia. ![]() Photo by Martino Pietropoli on Unsplash The warm and welcoming environmentSlovenians, for the most part, pride themselves on creating a welcoming atmosphere for foreign tourists. While tourists visiting hotspots in Western Europe might be experiencing something of a backlash from the locals, the same isn’t true in the continent’s East. The fact that English is widely spoken here makes things even more appealing. A reasonably well-developed transport infrastructure makes it easy for tourists to move from one part of the country to another, too. You can feasibly get from the Adriatic to the Alps in a matter of hours – which makes it easy to experience all of the cultural events on offer while still focusing on whatever part of the country has taken your interest. SustainabilityTourists around the world are becoming increasingly conscious of their impact on the natural world. Slovenia is a winner in this regard: there is plenty of eco-friendly accommodation available, and the environment is clean and unspoilt. While you’re in the country, you’ll want to be conscious of your impact on this green and pleasant paradise. Pick up your litter as you go! Natural landscapesA few parts of Slovenia stand out as particularly worth visiting. These are overwhelmingly the outdoor parts. Stunning waterfalls, valleys, and rivers can take the breath away, as can the rolling hills where some of Slovenia’s best wines are produced. Lake Bled is the country’s most famous landmark, and thus it attracts hordes of tourists. There’s a castle overlooking the water, the views from which are truly remarkable on a clear day. Pay a visit during the off-season, and avoid the crowds. It’s also worth mentioning the country’s capital, Ljubljana. This is a picturesque European city that’s very different from many of the ones you might be familiar with. Expect a vibrant cycling culture, incredible cuisine, and a varied selection of museums and galleries. ![]() Photo by George Bakos on Unsplash Outdoor activities and adventure sportsFor a certain kind of adventure holiday, Slovenia is among the most appealing destinations in Europe. This is largely thanks to its natural attributes. If you want to go white-water rafting, there are few better places to do it than the famous Soča river. Similarly, if you want to explore the countryside, you can do it with the help of a cycling tour of Slovenia.
If you’d prefer an underground adventure, you might visit the Postojna Cave and Škocjan Cave. On the other hand, there are amazing skiing locations like Kranjska Gora and Vogel. Disclaimer: this is a collaborative post. Comments are closed.
