Smart tech is the not-so-new kid on the block when it comes to lightweight home upgrades. The Internet of Things has been around long enough that we’ve all already benefited from the technology in one way or another. A structured approach to adding technology to your home, though, can make for major long-term benefits. And, since the tech is yours, it’s not necessarily bolted on to the house or its value.

Smart home devices like video doorbells, smart thermostats and voice-controlled lighting are all products that add convenience to your everyday life. They can often be linked in interesting ways via your smartphone too, making them convenient and easy to use/manage.

Upgrading access and security

Replacing your exterior doors may not be at the top of your renovation list, but it can have some positive impacts in a number of ways. There are financial benefits to upgrading your home’s security, but newer composite doors are also more energy-efficient, easier to open, and available in all manner of funky colourways, allowing you to add a personal touch to your entryway.

On the convenience front, there’s a major benefit to replacing your garage door, too. Electric garage doors are great for convenient parking or storage, as well as safety. Plus, they’re pretty much guaranteed to be more secure than your older, decrepit stand-in door.

Low maintenance time-savers

It’s often the little things that make a big difference to the feel of a home, and the same is very much true when it comes to small renovation tasks that significantly up the convenience levels of keeping a home.

Things like new antibacterial kitchen surfaces are wipe-clean and much safer to prepare food on, and new decking solutions are much easier to jet-wash clean and much safer to walk on. A bin store can also work wonders for keeping pests out of your rubbish and keeping your garden clean to boot.
