Collaborative Post | The good life. That's what a lot of people call the years after 50 for women. It's finally the moment where you get to put yourself first, go out, explore the world and spend some time doing the things that truly interest you. The idea of travel often comes in, as you finally have a little more time and also the budget, quite frankly. The question here is what kind of travel you're looking for? Is it a moment on the coast that you're wanting to get or is it a bustling city escape that knocks you off your feet? You need to carefully balance the pros and the cons of each option, in relation to the trip that you see for yourself and then plan and go for it! Why not? Life is short, go and explore. Coastal escapes that recharge your soulThe coast is always a good option. There’s something about the sea that resets your perspective. Fresh air, crashing waves and the soothing rhythm of the tides, could you picture anything more majestic? It is honestly a natural stress reliever. A coastal weekend can be just what you need when daily routines start to feel a bit stale. You might enjoy a quiet cottage or B&B near a peaceful beach, morning walks along the shore with a warm cup of tea in hand, local seafood restaurants with cosy atmospheres or going to visit small-town shops filled with handmade goods and local treats. These kinds of getaways are ideal if you’re looking to unwind, read a book or simply clear your head. Country retreats with a touch of luxuryIf rolling hills, long walks and fresh countryside air sound like your idea of heaven, then a weekend in the country could be just the thing. Think old stone inns, spa treatments and lazy afternoons in front of a fireplace. Country retreats offer scenic walks and hiking trails for all fitness levels, afternoon teas in historic settings that make for quite the treat, spa facilities with massage, sauna and swimming pools if you're interested and quiet, beautiful settings perfect for reconnecting with friends or yourself. It doesn't matter if you're going solo or with friends or with family, a country retreat is always a great idea. You see, if you're travelling solo, this kind of trip gives you space to do just what you want to do, when you want to do it. You get to decide. Taking a moment for yourself in the hotel room to play some online casino games can be a fun little diversion. The key is to treat them as just that, a little diversion, not a way to make money. The key here is to start slow, choose platforms with good reputations and always set limits. There are plenty of lighthearted games like slots or bingo-style formats that are easy to pick up. You can find games that are available to play for free, so that you don't have to make any investment. And if it ever stops feeling fun or starts to feel like a habit, take a step back. Responsible gambling is all about balance and control. Cultural city breaks full of charmSometimes you want a bit more buzz. A weekend in a lively, walkable city can offer museums, food markets, historical tours and live performances all within reach. The key is choosing a city that's not overwhelming, where you can soak up the atmosphere without rushing from place to place. What you might include in your weekend:
Plan around your interests, maybe you’re into textiles, ceramics or history. A city break doesn’t have to be non-stop; it can simply be about taking in the surroundings at your own pace. You could rent a car and stay in the city but still escape it when you want. Or you could dive right in and try to drive all the small cobble streets in the city that look fun and just let all your senses be happily overwhelmed. Nature focused weekends that reconnect youIf you feel most grounded when surrounded by greenery, a nature weekend might be calling your name. Whether it’s staying in a forest cabin, glamping under the stars or joining a group retreat, spending time outdoors can be deeply restorative. Nature-focused getaways often include birdwatching and nature walks, meditation and yoga sessions, journaling or creative writing by the fire or even stargazing and campfire chats. The good thing about this one is that you don’t need to be super fit or sporty. Just bring an open mind, a comfortable pair of boots and a willingness to participate. Travel tips to make it effortlessOnce you know where you’re going, a few little tricks can make your trip even smoother. You’ve probably done your fair share of packing over the years but it never hurts to have a few reminders:
Also, consider travelling mid-week if you can swing it. Places are often quieter, less expensive and more relaxed without the weekend crowds. Travel Isn’t About Distance, It’s About ExperienceIt's all about the experience. Try not to sweat the small stuff when you're travelling, just make the most of every beautiful moment.
