It's time to think about our autumn and winter coats again, the clocks have changed, the weather is getting more unpredictable and we all need a reliable coat for crisp dog-walks, fitness walks or countryside weekends! Getting our outdoor wear right makes all the difference to our mental wellbeing and if we are warm, dry and cosy, we are more likely to get outside. This autumn I've committed to more fitness walks, I've even added them to my diary! I am going skiing for new year and I know my cardio fitness is a little lacking so I will be walking more challenging uphill paths to get my heart rate up and prepare me for my ski holiday. But I need to keep dry and warm! I’ve been looking for waterproof coats that offer not only protection from the elements, but a flattering fit and thoughtful design too, it’s about practical pieces that still feel stylish enough to wear for coffee or errands as well. And that’s exactly why Lighthouse Clothing has become a favourite in my wardrobe since being introduced to them last year. Lighthouse coats are beautifully made, many are fully waterproof (or water repellant), windproof, breathable and designed for real women who want to look good while staying warm and dry. This is a gifted blog post. Waterproof and lightweight - the Tess coatThe Tess coat from Lighthouse is perfect for the transitional season right now, it's waterproof (3,000 mm), windproof and breathable with fully taped seams. It comes in three gorgeous colours. I have the Teal but I also tried the Sea Kelp and it comes in Cream. You can see me trying on the two colours on my Instagram reel! I chose the teal as it is brighter and suits my colour palette more but I loved the Sea Kelp too! The body is fleece-lined and it has a removable hood if you don't walk the bulk or there is no rain about. It is very comfortable to wear and super-lightweight, I love the shaped hem which is very flattering and it comes with lots of useful pockets (for my phone, poo bags and keys) including a safe internal pocket. Functional and fabulous, I highly recommend. I persuaded my son's girlfriend to join me for a walk in the woods and take these lovely photos, it was a mild day with no rain but I felt comfortable in my Tess coat and I loved the useful pockets, because it is lightweight I didn't overheat but I still felt cosy, a perfect coat for right now and as we progress into the cooler winter days. Warm layer from the Haven JerseyI styled my Tess coat with the Haven Jersey in Coconut and what a pleasant surprise this sweatshirt was! A beautiful fresh colour (there are lots of colours available), I sized up to the 12, it is a longer length (but not too long) and is the perfect layering piece. It is made from cotton-rich jersey and is a midweight with a funnel neck and popper opening. I love the design details on the cuffs and neck and the deep pockets too! It looks great on it's own and under the Tess coat and will also work really well under the Margot coat. Padded, warm and water repellant - the Margot coatUsually I choose a cream coat but this year the sage shade of the Margot coat from Lighthouse really caught my eye. A little more forgiving in terms of keeping clean but still bright, light and refreshing. This is a warmer style that is ideal for the colder months ahead. It is hip-length with a recycled filling and it has been designed to keep you warm without feeling heavy or restrictive. It has a water repellant outer up to 1,000 mm which is perfect for light rain and drizzle. The fit is relaxed and feels comfortable over a heavier knit or fleece, the hood is adjustable and detachable and it has sturdy, storm cuffs, lots of pockets and a two-way zip. I;m very impressed with the Margot coat and can't wait to wear it more to brighten up my winter walks and outings. It also comes in navy and Irish cream. Why I'm loving Lighthouse ClothingI'm impressed with the quality, the colours and the fit and I especially love the quote they discreetly add to each of their coat designs 'live simple live happy' something we can all relate to. They have a really big selection - check out their Savannah coat, the design is similar to the Margot but it is the longer version. I've seen it styled on Instagram in the cocoa colour and if I hadn't already got a very good long coat, I'd be ordering it! Lighthouse want to celebrate the simple moments and treasure the everyday, and worrying less about the weather is part of that! I know I often avoid a walk due to rain or cold and getting frizzy hair, What is the saying 'there's no such thing as bad weather just unsuitable clothing' ... Lighthouse design their coats in Northern Ireland and the Irish know a thing or two about inclement weather! All their designs are inspired by a love of the coast and wanting to make life simpler. A great walking coat is an investment in more time outdoors with all the comfort you need while you are there. Getting the right waterproof coat for our British climate is essential and if you can do it with a beautiful, stylish layer in stunning colours then even better! If you’re looking to upgrade your autumn coats or find a reliable winter coat before the colder weather sets in, these two are definitely worth exploring.
