You will have noticed that I am slowly, very slowly, looking for more eco-friendly and sustainable options in my life, it is a gradual process and one that won't happen overnight. Decluttering my house and my wardrobe in particular has been a recent project. Buying less, shopping my wardrobe and researching sustainable brands is all part of the process. My favourite shampoo can now be refilled if I save the bottles, all baby steps. So when I was contacted by 'Wild' recently about their Kickstarter campaign I decided it was one I should look at closer - an eco-friendly and natural deodorant that actually works!? And I really like supporting the smaller brands - especially with a focus on sustainability. Before agreeing to review Wild on my blog t hough, I wanted to find out more, and I loved the ethos and story behind the brand. First of all it is a new start up business, founded by Charlie and Freddy, who have known each other all their lives and have dreamt of starting their own business together. They have been inspired by the fight against single use plastic and the growing move towards using natural ingredients. Freddy was previously Marketing Director at Hello Fresh and Charlie has recently made a successful exit from his reusable coffee cup company. And so Wild was born and they were then joined by Maria to bring a creative and feminine touch. Wild is a natural range of deodorants ... that work! It is easy to apply, it is vegan friendly, aluminium, sulphate and paraben free and it is never ever tested on animals. It comes in a glass roll-on range or stick deodorant. All products in the Wild range are refillable and use the minimum amount of packaging. There are four natural fragrances - Mint and Eucalyptus, Rose and Geranium, Lemon and Thyme and an unfragranced version. Wild are currently running a Kickstarter campaign and it is already nearly 200% funded - which has inspired them to set a new target! The campaign runs until Friday 26th July. Wild use active natural ingredients to combat the smell of sweat whilst still allowing your body to sweat, which they see as a natural and important process used by your body to remove toxins and regulate temperature. And yes, a natural deodorant that does work!So when I tested it did it work a what did I think? The sample sent to me to try was the Lemon and Thyme scent which I wasn't so keen on, I felt it was more masculine may be and I would have preferred the Geranium and Rose but stocks had already run out due to the demand for samples. However it was still a very pleasant and subtle scent. On the first day I tried it I was unsure whether it had worked. I haven't used a stick deodorant for a long time. So the next day I made sure I was more thorough with applying it. And it did work! I have now used it for four days and I am very happy with it's effectiveness. I like the simple packaging, it is generously sized and easy to apply. What is the difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant? - if you are unsure - deodorant is a 'cosmetic' used to mask or neutralise body odour, whereas antiperspirant is a 'drug' because it temporarily blocks your sweat glands to reduce perspiration. Deciding between the two is a personal choice and depends on your sweat levels but for me now I am keen to move to a more natural option - and most antiperspirants will have aluminium in them. So I will be sticking with a natural deodorant. You can find details of the Wild Kickstarter campaign here and you can pledge as little as £12 (includes a reward) or up to £600 if you want to get involved in designing your own fragrance with Wild.
