White trainers to wear with dresses | still a foolproof outfit combo I'm not giving up anytime soon!

The dress and trainer look is still going strong and I love it, this trend changed my whole outlook on wearing dresses, finally I could feel comfortable, do away with the formality of heels and now my dresses can be dressed up or down.  I love the casual vibe of a dress and trainer outfit.

For my daughters generation it is hard for them to imagine a time when trainers with dresses (or any other outfit) wasn't a wardrobe staple.  But for us Gen X's it was all so much more formal, high heels to the office, dresses were saved for special occasions and only those blessed with a taller, slimmer statue dared wear flats.  At 5'2" I just felt too frumpy, too short or too casual, and so it was that I'd wear a skirt, blouse and jacket or a suit with high heels (usually stilettos) to the office and for my regular lunchtime sojourn into the town centre.  How on earth my feet survived all day I will never know!  Although I do have the bunions to show for it, I couldn't do those lunchtime walks in heels now!

So I'm delighted the dress and trainers trend continues, take them away from me at your peril!  I'm always on the lookout for the best trainers to wear with my dresses from spring to autumn (I usually lean towards boots in the winter months).

The athleisure trend has kept dresses and trainers as an everyday essential in (nearly) every woman's wardrobe, from the top designers to high street style, the white trainer remains a capsule wardrobe must have.  And we are utterly spoilt for choice, whatever your budget, there is a white trainer for you.

Sustainable trainers from SANS MATIN

In this blog post I am introducing you to sustainable trainer brand SANS MATIN.

SANS MATIN means 'without morning' and represents the cultural shift that has taken place in more recent years, traditional workplace norms are out along with the stuffy dress codes I talk about above.

The trainer is now an everyday staple worn for work and play, dressed up or down, and the clean lines and bright aesthetic of classic white never goes out of style and elevates any outfit from jeans, to treksuit to dresses and skirts - and suits for men - the trainer literally goes with everything.

I even saw an Instagram post recently where (@clubfortyclaire) shared a photo of her daughter looking stunning in her prom dress and her and her friends were all wearing trainers.  So much more sensible, I know my daughter completely agrees.

SANS MATIN ensure that comfort and style are combined and every single one of their styles are expertly handmade by master shoemakers to create designs that are versatile, comfortable and stylish.

Founded by cousins, Charley and Lockie, when they were backpacking in South America, they literally designed the trainer they were searching for - high quality, sensibly priced, versatile and comfortable.  Styles that could be worn anywhere and with everything.

Trainers and dresses is a foolproof combo that's here to stay

When the trainer with dresses trend started it was all about the white trainer but designs are now far more interesting, like so much in modern fashion, anything goes!  However for me nothing quite beats white, especially in summer, but I love adding a pop of colour if I can, a stripe, a coloured heel, or a leopard print accent.  Don't worry about clashing either, animal print is a neutral and we no longer need to be constrained by conventional style rules.

Whatever your personal style, there are so many different ways to wear a white trainer, add a denim jacket and pair with a summer dress, as I have below, and they are great for long days out or for summer travel because they will remain comfortable whatever you are doing.  Adding socks is optional, I prefer to wear a hidden sock if I feel something is needed.

Outfit inspiration for your white trainers

I'm sharing a little bit of outfit inspiration ... and wearing The Savannah from SANS MATIN with a midi dress from Nobody's Child, the White Embroidered Floral Lennox Midi Dress. I love this casual look, my plan was to wear it to see Kylie at BST Hyde Park but the weather wasn't on my side!  I always choose my outfit from my feet up, if my feet are comfortable then I'm happy.

A classic pair of white trainers can be the basis for so many casual outfits, they work with a mini dress or a flowy maxi dress and are a great alternative to the other big shoe trend that is back this year, ballet flats (less suitable for plantar fasciitis and not so good for a long day of walking or very wet weather).

Clean, minimalist and versatile, I'm styling The Savannah from SANS MATIN with a midi dress, but they will look equally as stylish with jeans, shorts or trousers.

And I chose this trainer style because of the touch of baby blue, I love it!  They also look great with summer blue jeans, or navy leggings, and with my jump-set from Wear Two..

Trainers offer all day / every day comfort

All SANS MATIN trainers have a triple-layered footbed which acts like a memory foam mattress, and combined with the supple leather and cushioned outsoles, wearing a pair of trainers from SANS MATIN really is like walking on clouds.  Making their white trainers the ultimate shoe for everyday wear!

In the absence of any real summer weather (so far) this year, we need to stay warm, dry and comfortable but not give in to wearing clothes that feel too wintery, and a dress and trainer outfit is a good compromise!

Don't forget to use my discount code if you make a purchase from SANS MATIN it is MICHELLE15 to get £20 off your order.

Love from
Michelle xx
