Dry skin is something I have become much more aware of as I have got older. We often talk about the changes we notice in our faces during and after menopause, but the skin on our bodies can become drier too.
For me, it is particularly noticeable on my arms, the back of my hands, my lower legs and chest. Sunshine, central heating, colder weather and long hot baths and showers can all leave my skin needing more attention than it did when I was younger. I have always been good at looking after my face, but I admit that body care has sometimes been more of an afterthought. I would use whichever shower gel or bar of soap happened to be in the bathroom, then promise myself I would apply body lotion afterwards. Quite often, I wouldn’t. My nail technician was regularly commenting on my dry arms or dry legs when I'd go in for a manicure or pedicure! So I have been trying to improve my skin by thinking about how I cleanse my body in the first place, and a shower oil for dry skin has made such a positive difference. Black Friday seems to get bigger every year and more overwhelming! My inbox is always inundated the week before and the week after, it's no longer a single day of discounts but weeks of offers, early access offers and reminders not to miss out! I do love a bargain and I will often use Black Friday to shop for Christmas gifts, especially if my children have asked for something specific but I try to avoid buying for the sake of buying (just because something is on a special offer). Black Friday is a useful opportunity to get ahead with presents, replace things we genuinely need or buy something we have had our eye on for a while. But it is also very easy to get caught up in the excitement and end up with things we didn't really want in the first place. For me previous Black Friday buys have included hair straighteners, a leather biker jacket and winter boots, all of which are still loved, used and appreciated. This year I have my eye on a travel hairdryer! I have become much more thoughtful about shopping as I have got older and I am trying to make better decisions about what I bring into my wardrobe and my home and now have regular sort outs and sell on Vinted. So, rather than sharing a huge list of things to buy, I thought I would put together a few practical tips for shopping the Black Friday sales without getting carried away. Photo by Iuliia Pilipeichenko on Unsplash Crow’s feet, smile lines, frown lines and changes in our skin texture are all a completely natural part of getting older. I certainly don’t expect my skin to look the way it did in my 30s, nor would I want it to, I'm happy for the life I've lived to show in my face . But that doesn’t mean I’m not interested in beauty treatments that might help my skin look a little smoother, brighter and healthier as I approach 60. Especially if it's from the more affordable at-home treatments!
I have been sent the new Tria FRX Skin Rejuvenating Laser to try at home. It is designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and uneven skin texture using fractional laser technology. Although crow’s feet are one of the most common areas of concern for women in midlife, the area I notice most on my own face is around my mouth. My smile lines, especially on one side, have become more pronounced over recent years, It's one area where I have vaguely wondered about a filler treatment! I’m never entirely comfortable with the phrase 'anti-ageing'. Ageing is inevitable and smiling, laughing and living a full life will naturally leave their mark on our faces. But I am interested in supporting my skin as it changes and finding out whether an at-home laser can help soften the appearance of some of those lines. In this post, I’m sharing my first experience of using the Tria FRX, how easy it is to incorporate into an evening routine and what it actually feels like to use. I will update the post once I have completed a longer course of treatments, as it would be unrealistic to judge the final results after only a few weeks. Rebuilding my health and confidence | HRT at 60, fitness, mood and feeling like myself again1/9/2026 When I shared my six-month countdown to 60 back in June, I divided the next stage of my life into five areas that felt important to me. Health and energy came first, followed closely by confidence and body.
Because however much I want to travel, wear fabulous clothes, say yes to new experiences and make the most of this next chapter, all of those things feel so much harder when I am tired, anxious or simply not feeling like myself. I knew I wanted to feel stronger and more confident before I turned 60, but I also knew I didn't want to spend six months chasing an unrealistic transformation. This isn't about trying to relaunch myself, look younger or force myself in a smaller dress size. It is about looking after myself properly and getting back some of the energy, motivation and confidence that has been missing for a few years. I'm now three months into my countdown - approaching the halfway point - so I thought it was time for an update on what has been helping, what I am learning and why improving my health has involved much more than eating less and exercising more. My coaching with Alice has been gifted, but there was no obligation to write this post and all thoughts and experiences are my own. |
