A week in Bude in Cornwall, lots of walking, lots of eating out, lots of family time. I din't pack very well, I was very stressed the day before we went and I spent all day faffing about trying to work out what I should take. Then we had a mini-heatwave (which was lovely of course) but I wish I had taken a few more summery bits. Oh well, I will get it right one day. This dress was a last minute addition to my suitcase - does anyone else do that? Pack, panic and add more? Anyway very glad I did as our first day was very hot and we had a short walk and afternoon tea in a pretty garden. Dress is from Next and sandals are from Holster.. Here we were off for a walk on the beach and then cocktails on the terrace at The Beach so I needed to be warm and comfortable but smarter too. I bought this new jumper from Jack Wills a few days before we went (as I was in a panic about being warm and needed a new jumper)! I highly recommend these jumpers from Jack Wills! The scarf is from Mint Velvet and my small silver bag was just £15 from Accessorize. Another beach walk - so good for stress! I have wondered if I'd like to live by the sea but then I thought I'd have nowhere to go when it is holiday time. Anyway I have two of these vest tops from Boden and they are absolute holiday staples. I am wearing a cashmere cardigan from Pure Collection around my shoulders. On this day we had lunch and a walk at Boscastle. My westies wanted to get in on the photos too! I layered up as it was quite chilly. This is a pink top from the Whistles sale and then a navy jersey shirt and scarf from White Stuff. It worked well to leave the shirt undone as a jacket. My featherweight jacket from Uniqlo is just so useful. I can fold it into a bag and put it in my bag or wear it around my waist but it is the perfect weight for autumn and spring (and summer)! I have two but I prefer my navy one as it has a hood. As I keep going on about these jackets I think they deserve a post all to themselves! Haha not quite sure why I decided to wear white jeans to the beach! They thankfully weren't my expensive ones and you'll be pleased to know they survived! My Uniqlo jacket again and new North Face walking trainers. This is the other Boden t-shirt (already mentioned above) worn with my Pure cashmere cardigan. This was the day we got asked to be in the Clovelly promotional video! Donna at I Won't Wear Sludge Brown introduced me to Holster and what fab sandals they are - a little more costly than your basic flip flop but also so practical and comfortable. I wore these in the sand and then easily washed them under the tap and they are as good as new, plus I can walk reasonable distances in them without getting sore feet. And they add a bit of bling! I'll leave you with a photo of Sandymouth Beach at Bude, just gorgeous and there is something very special about an evening walk on a British beach.

The last week of the summer holidays before the return to normal routine and sixth form was spent in Bude in Cornwall. We were so lucky with the weather! We had the bank holiday mini-heatwave and sun most of the week with rain only overnight or early morning. I am useless at packing for a holiday in the UK though. I didn't really take enough 'summery' clothes but hey ho it didn't matter. I'll do another post on my packing soon. Here are a few things we got up to: Walks on the beach - I just love doing this, and sitting on the beach, I love to hear the waves crashing and the chatter of children playing. Our dogs absolutely love the beach and have proved they can swim too. I honestly think all children should spend a week on a British beach every year, forget taking them to boiling hot countries, get some wellies, a wet suit and a good jumper and go splash in the sea and make sandcastles. Hot holidays can wait until they are teenagers! Clovelly - this is a beautiful privately owned village in North Devon. I visited as a child and I was really keen to go back. We were approached by a lady who was looking for a man and a woman to appear in a promotional video they were making. I of course was very keen, my husband not so, but he agreed and we got to sit on a balcony and enjoy a cream tea. It turned out they had been looking for a well-presented couple in their mid-thirties and were very surprised to hear we were 50 and 53. I hope our footage gets used and I will share it with you if it does ever appear on the Clovelly website! Boscastle - this is a pretty Cornish village and might be remembered by many when it was flooded back in 2004 causing extensive damage. We have visited before but love wandering around the little shops and having lunch. The views from the cliffs above the harbour are stunning. Bude itself is lovely for shopping, just individual coastal shops and surf and beach gear but it is enjoyable to wander around. We love the hotel The Beach which was voted by The Telegraph as having one of the best views in the UK - a cocktail on the deck and dinner in the restaurant is a must if you are nearby. Bude also boasts some wonderful beaches and one evening we took our little BBQ stove down to the beach and cooked sausages and let the dogs play in the rock pools. We stay at Houndapitt Cottages near Sandymouth Beach and I can recommend them for being dog friendly, welcoming and very reasonably priced and Sandymouth is a gorgeous beach to be based near.

I am much happier setting goals and planning in September than I am in January. Probably due to having children and following the academic year, I am not sure how that will change when they have finished their education but for now it works very well for me. It's been a bit of a tough summer for me. Extended holiday due to study leave, the worry of GCSE's and results and the menopause settling in nicely and giving me quite a shock health wise. I have been quite poorly and very stressed. But I am determined to tackle this and take care of me! I seemed to float along quite well up until my 50th birthday and into this spring but something has definitely changed in the last few months. So I have some big stuff to sort out and smaller stuff too. I thought I'd share a summary of my goals and plans as it might inspire you too:
So what do you think? What are your goals this 'new year'? I will expand on each area more in later posts and let you know how it is all going. Love Michelle xx A week in Cornwall gave me time to rest and reflect, Look out for my next post when I will tell you a bit more about our holiday.
